Agreed on the limbs. Tummy isn't much of a determining factor for fatness...and most models CLEARLY are not fat.

I really don't think Catherine McNeil has a problem, of course I can't confirm. I think the thing is she was really skinny, but she was still bigger than the "eastern europeans" (don't mean to offend anyone by that, it's just easier than to name them all), it was mostly her shoulders really. She's simply filled out as you'd expect a 19/20 year old to do. I seriously doubt however that she is 19. I think she's actually 20/21. She's gained weight, nothing wrong with that and if designers can overlook it we're certainly shouldn't be criticising her. Unfortunately the weight gain has caused her to lose her chiselled model-esque face, she has less visible cheekbones now, which were part of her appeal. She's still gorgeous, just at that height and wide shoulders it's easier for someone to look big.

Having said that I wouldn't be surprised if she did surpress her food/appetite to keep runway tiny. Now that she's so successful and reached this pinacle she probably feels less of a need to diet now. I guess she was dieting rather than going full blown binge and purge bulemic. From interviews and her attitude I don't think she was that into modelling that she'd get a mental disorder out of it. She seems too cool and chill about it. Whereas some models like Natasha Poly and Vlada seem to eat sleep and drink modelling.

However, I remember she's said she came to New York when she was younger (before 2007) and was told she wasn't ready. I think looking at her work from 2005/6 it was bigger she was a little bigger, just as Abbey Lee was. She's also did an interview from early in her career that she eats Salad a lot and that she sometimes is so tired that she skips dinner, and I remember thinking to myself "I bet she accidentally forgets to eat a lot of meals". This weight gain isn't new she had lost her chiselled face in June, during the F/W08 Haute Couture Shows. I do however think her weight gain was the reason that she skipped Milan and Paris in the SS09 ready to wear shows. Which is sad, does anyone else think that Freja skipped the shows becausee designers were boycotting Catherine? Or is that too wild of a theroy.

I'm not sure about Freja skipping shows, I think she may have just needed a break. I agree about Cat. The photos of her when she was younger and in Girlfriend mag and she was definitely fuller faced. She probably had to slim down to make it in NY, Paris etc. Now she can rely more on her name becasue she is well known, rather than jut being another thinish model.

It's because the Western world is a fat-phobic society. Simple as that. There are so many negative (and flat-out WRONG) stereotypes attached to fat people, calling Lara and Karolina names like "fat" are meant to demean them to these common prejudices.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with curves, but some people seem to think models have to be SUPER skinny, seriously they are women before they are models and women's face and bodies age over time, its natural to gain weight. Lara Stone was never the size of Vlada to start with and that's why like her so much. She's a model while still remaining her size and never having to compromise for it. Not that I am saying Vlada has because she also has been the exact same size since she started as fas as I am concerned. I guess people expect models to be clones when all of them are different and we appreciate them for it. I am done for the night.

living in NY i see a lot of models but i have to say that cat is really average-looking in person. i could not say the same of some other girls i see on the street, whose skinny skinny limbs are just shocking in a non-runway or editorial context. cat was sitting on my door stoop for a few hours or so this summer (i don't know why; she was chatting with her friend) and she looked like your normal slim person. appearances can be deceiving but she seemed just fine to me.. and she is a little duck-footed, hehe
