i would think the opposite considering how private she is, the more dear a relationship is to her, the more she wants to keep it in a low profile. her being so public with penn makes me think that she really doesn't care that much because it's not something that serious.

I also always thought that it was so odd that Ryan Scarlett avoided being spotted so rigorously. Look at Portman, Meryl Streep or Deniro, they guard their privacy but not to the insane point Ryan and Scarlett did, that must have been a strain on the realtionship.
