Personally, I think he clearly has a lot of clout in the industry and his aesthetic has influenced both fashion, advertising, and graphic design. I've even read an interview with him in which I began to understand where he was coming from a little bit. However, I do think he is a dirty old man and we shouldn't be naive about what happens on his shoots.
I couldn't agree more.

(And on a side note... Come on, his photography skills are so terribly mediocre. Any hipster with a beginner's 350D, external flash and a pretty lady willing to pose nude could take the same shots... His shoots belong in Zoo Today or Nuts... Not Vogue.)

Isn't there a picture floating around of Richardson with his penis out & the nude female model under him holding it while he ejaculated on her? Sorry for the revolting details, but that photograph can not be deemed "artistic" even if she is 18+.

& I'd rather be of the minority & unpopular than be popular & support his work.

I find some of Terry's job very good, others disgusting. He's is very repetitive too, I think that Rie is rather right and I'm glad that someone speak up about this, because I believe that many people think this, but arent brave enough to speak about a subject like this.

well if one is going to call him out on that how about making it a case for the entire industry then? it seems fruitless to make him responsible for the nature of the objectification of young girls when young girls have been objectified in this industry for ages. as much as i would love to say he's a prime example,he's merely an aspect of an entire machine that's happened for a long time. and i speak specifically on the work...now,whether the issue is that he pushes himself onto young girls that's really an issue for their agencies and the authorities. where is their responsibility in all that?

artnet

Incredibly artistic.

I would post more... But I believe the photos would fall under the category of porn.

and btw,i think terry richardson is vile. there's no doubt about that. my issue is why now is he the target and not others who have played a similar game? not to mention the ones that continue to support it?

I couldn't agree with you more...

As long as his pictures are being used by major publications, clients hire him for campaigns and agents keep feeding him with their youngest and freshest talent....his kind of sleeze photography will be allowed.

While I agree that Richardson's supporters and fellow slobs should just as much be under fire as he is right now, it's not wrong by any means to call him out for what he does. Just because everybody's doing it doesn't mean it's okay.

We could make a looooong list of people who need their own thread where members could venture about their wrong-doings in the industry from that super-tool Olivier Zahm to Anna Wintour for publishing Terry in her oh-so-polished magazine.

I hope that Rie inspires some other girls to come up with their stories about Terry. If one or two substantial stories about how it is to work with him would surface, I got a weird feeling that his list of supporters would be a lot shorter all of a sudden.

In any other business this guy would have been fired, boycotted and whatnot. The fashion industry doesn't care.

I can't understand how any model would want to work with him or can defend him. He might be okay to the established models but the girls who still have a lot to prove? I feel sorry for them, as I don't want to know what he might do.

Rie has voiced her opinion about him. An opinion many share, including myself.

I would hope agencies are not sending young girls to his shoots to be coerced into sexualized poses and nudity they might not otherwise have done.

I think it's really great that she's actually saying something. Terry Richardson has a name in the industry and has worked for Vogue and Bazaar and Rolling Stone etc. which leads people into just blindly doing whatever he says because they think he's such an artist. The girls don't question him. People are really so stupid, I hope this woman speaking out can open people's eyes and the publications will stop constantly booking him. His photos are so trendy. He just manipulates young girls and takes their photographs and then hops into the photo with his thumbs-up and stands next to them with that smirk looking like her could be their father. I won't make any assumptions as far as what else he pressures the girls into doing but I will say that he exploits women. It's a classic case.

I think Rie is great, and I think I would've done the same thing.
