Right, so as long as you're earning cash and getting popular in the industry, exploiting underage girls is fine.
its not me, it is how things work.... and its not just terry to blame, which straight man would refuse to do his job? money, pretty girls on plate, what else is there?
i didnt call rie a leader of anything, i just think that if u want to prove a point than do it rite, cos this could look like some personal argument gone public.... and everyone will forget about in a week...
what i dont understand is why famous women still work with terry...

I would. Just because a man is straight, doesn't mean he likes seeing women expose themselves in these type of publications. I prefer a lady who knows to cover herself from other lustful eyes.

I'm not attacking you by the way, just wanted to clear that not all men like this.

I suppose that this would also excuse pimps. I mean many prostitutes are over 18 and "willing" to put out their vaginas and mouths and anuses for cash. So it's all the girls fault and not the pimps who are merely, what? channeling commerce in their way?
No one would ever excuse a pimp, why the hell would you expect anyone would excuse the fashion biz equivalent?

This pseudo-feminism is usually thinly veiled 'sl*t shaming' or people trying to enforce their own moral standards onto others (i.e., moral proselytism). Call me when Terry break any decency laws.
Absolutely the models, should be held accountable as well as the agents and the fashion designers, everyone in the biz. But somehow that's not an excuse for Terry. And there are definitley stories of girls who DON'T want to do the kind of work that Terry does but feels like they have to if they want to have any career in the business. So what are we supposed to do, just ignore them, especially the under-age ones b/c it's just too inconvenient for a dirty old man who can't get laid otherwise and his sycophants who have even less talent?

He's nothing short of an exploiter.

God, how long has Rie been away from the fashion industry? She's a fantastic model.
I feel the same way!

Yes, I find many of his pictures degrading too. And although I think women get exploited more explicitly than men his pictures of men is not much better.

This has to be the most ludicrous comparison I've ever read.

In all seriousness though: 99% of prostitutes who have pimps (conservative estimates) are either women who have been enslaved (most often kidnapped from foreign countries or lured under false pretenses) or prostitutes who had been forced to seek 'protection' because of police harassment and/or because they were coerced with violence by the pimps (who take most if not all of their earnings, btw).
The idea that their plight is in any way comparable to the working conditions of Freja and co is frankly insulting all women concerned.

Accountable for what? If they (by they I mean Terry and his models) want to do trashy pornographic work, that's their prerogative. They don't have to justify themselves to anyone, unless something illegal is going on.

I do find it hard to believe. Terry isn't the kind of photographer that makes or break careers. He's not Meisel.
However, I'm not dismissing that possibility outright, just awaiting evidence to support Terry's abusiveness towards models (and I have a feeling I will be waiting for a while).

Anyway, I'm out of this thread: far too much moralising and preachiness in here.

Will Terry Richardson become the Tiger Woods of fashion? Where after one woman who feels wronged by him comes forward, fifteen follow? Last week, Rie Rasmussen told the Post that Richardson manipulated young girls into doing nude shoots they'd sooner or later find shameful. This week, another of his subjects comes forward with detailed accounts of what her Terry Richardson experience was like. Jamie Peck writes on The Gloss that she's "not a model, just a vain girl with nice tits who likes to pose for the occasional cheesecake photo." She posed for Richardson when she was 19, and he did not fall into the same category as "all the fine folks I’ve frolicked au natural for," she writes. "He’s the only one who’s left me feeling like I needed to take two showers."
After meeting Richardson at a party, where she posed for him the first time, she went over to his studio for a second shoot. He made her tea, and then she danced around naked while the Yeah Yeah Yeahs album played on repeat and he took her picture. He asked her to call him Uncle Terry, and she did, so as not to seem like a fun spoiler.
All of that was fine, but the second time Peck went over to his studio for a shoot "was the weird one." And then her post starts reading like a Sex Diary:
Before I could say “whoa, whoa, whoa!” dude was wearing only his tattoos and waggling the biggest dick I’d ever seen dangerously close to my unclothed person (granted, I hadn’t seen very many yet). “Why don’t you take some pictures of me?” he asked. Um, sure.
So his assistants took pictures of me taking pictures of him. All the while, he was dropping names like they were hot, casually mentioning his upcoming Miu Miu shoot with Maggie Gyllenhall [sic] and Billy Crudup, wondering aloud if he could get the kid from Elephant to model, and suggesting I come upstate with him and his fab celebufriends. I wish I could say this didn’t impress me, but I was ****ing 19 and nerdy as hell, okay?
He then got her to perform sexual favors and offered her a signed print as payment, which she declined to accept since she "felt so gross about the whole thing." She never went back, but she later heard her picture wound up in Purple, which is edited by Richardson's guy Friday, Olivier Zahm.

if we think about his signature work than Rie's argument is perfectly valid...I think it is incredibly brave of her to speak her mind in that way... obviously he would not dare to ask Obama to strip in front of his camera or some other more established models...

Here's the full version.

The second time was the weird one. It was the end of my freshman year of college and my mom had just helped me move my stuff out of my dorm room, which I had one more day to vacate. I went straight downtown from there, thinking it would be more of the same, but it wasn’t. Uncle Terry was feeling frisky that day! I told him I had my period so I wanted to keep my underwear on, and he asked me to take my tampon out for him to play with. “I love tampons!” he said, in that psychotically upbeat way that temporarily convinces so many girls that what’s fun for Uncle Terry is fun for them. (I can just imagine him chirping, “Why don’t you wear these fairy wings while I **** you in the ***? Wouldn’t that be like, so fun?” to some attenuated girl fresh off the boat from Eastern Europe. Either the man’s totally delusional, or he gets off on the fact that many of these things are not, in fact, very much fun for the girls.) I politely declined his offer to make tea out of my bloody **** plug. It was then that he decided to just get naked.

I’m not sure how he maneuvered me over to the couch, but at some point he strongly suggested I touch his terrifying penis. Who the heck specifically requests a handjob, that most unpopular of sex acts which, were we casting a sex act version of The Breakfast Club, would undoubtedly play the part intended for Anthony Michael Hall? I’ll tell you: high school boys and Terry Richardson. Not that I would’ve preferred him to request anything else, I’m just sayin’: if you ask for an H.J., you are aiming low with complete knowledge that the girl is not into it.

This is where I zoom out on the situation. I can remember doing this stuff, but even at the time, it was sort of like watching someone else do it, someone who couldn’t possibly be me because I would never touch a creepy photographer’s penis. The only explanation I can come up with is that he was so darn friendly and happy about it all, and his assistants were so stoked on it as well, that I didn’t want to be the killjoy in the room. My new fake friends would’ve been bummed if I’d said no.

I must have said something about finals, because he told me, “if you make me come, you get an A.” So I did! Pretty fast, I might add. All over my left hand. His assistant handed me a towel.

I was supposed to get a signed print as payment but I felt so gross about the whole thing that I never went back. A while later, someone told me my picture was in Purple. If you’re reading this, Terry, and want to prove you really are a nice guy after all, I’m over it now and wouldn’t mind collecting that print.

This is an apt description of what I believe happens being around Terry. BUT his vulgarity is welcomed, sustained, promoted by the fashion industry and even idolized by some.

Just flip through the pages of Purple Magazine which I used to look forward too before it became Zahm's orgy outlet though he says its a place where women can express themselves freely blah blah blah. It's not just the models, Zahm's photos shows Daphne Guinness the exhibitionist, Camille B-W being groped, groping...

It's not uncommon to see models naked in an editorial, case in point the link to Lara in Interview...it is tasteful but that doesn't mean we can asses the comfort level of those modeling naked, we just assume they are comfortable because we are. We are comfortable with those shoots but Terry's shoots do not leave us comfortable.

Reading that account of Terry gives merit to those who view him as a harasser just as Abbey's quote does for those who believe the contrary. Terry has taken great photos but the inhibition seen in the models may later translate to regret or nothing at all.

But truth be told, and sorry to be crude, I find Terry Richardson to be a perverted mother*ucker.

Re: the article. I'm not defending Terry in any way, but if that girl didn't like what he was doing, why did she go back for a 2nd shoot? I don't understand.

& that tampon stuff is just gross. I really hope that is not true.

^She stated that the first shoot wasn't a problem for her. She didn't feel uncomfortable. It was the second time (going back) when all the sick stuff happened.
