daria would put vogue ukraine on the map.

no offense, but snejana is pretty much a model of yesterday. and milli is definitely not a vogue favorite. i dont think putting them on the first issue of vogue ukraine would generate much buzz in the high fashion world.

daria is definitely my first choice. next would be some up coming models such as juju. next would be kate moss/giselle/lara(the supermodels).

my point is that the first cover should go to a model who is still relevant to the industry in order to generate buzz.

When I saw the title of this thread, my first reaction was, "I hope Snejana gets lots of covers."

i don't think you're being that objective tbh, Snejana was quite successful in the past but now she's just not relevant in the fashion industry anymore
i hope Alla gets the first cover imo she deserves it more than anyone, she's such a hardworking and talented model..

^Snejana has been a regular at Vogue Paris under Alt. Has had a number of eds in Vogue Japan the past year or so. And has just landed a cover of Vogue Portugal. Seems pretty good for someone who's not relevant anymore, no?

BTW, Ukrainian fashion insiders were asked their opinion on the upcoming edition, including they they think should be on the debut cover.

"I suspect Eveline Mambetova will grace the debut cover." Lilia Pustovit, designer

"I think it's obvious for all that on the debut cover should be our "local" model, who's a top model internationally - for example Senjana Onopka. Fortunately, the list of Ukrainian top-models who became stars of the international runway is long, to pick one will depend on the editorial vision." Zoya Zvinatskovska, fashion critic

"Regarding the debut cover, I have no doubts that in our country we can find a few candidates - successful models, bright and beautiful individuals." Yulia Voronova, owner of Ermanno Scervino store

"Regarding the cover, I don't welcome when Ukrainian magazines use foreign imagines. In my opinion, we have a lot of talented individuals who would be capable of producing a good cover. Moreover, Ukraine has a good number of beautiful models." Alla Kostromichova, model

There is some pic of quessing who will be on debut cover=) And there is still no information who will be the editor in chief. So it is hard to say something and how everything will develop.

^Haha. That's pretty terrible, but I like how they're thinking.

BTW, that article on tFS about this is really condescending.

It's always fun to see what a new edition of Vogue will do. And I think Vogue Ukraine could do well, especially since they have quite a few good models. My main hope is that they support models from their country rather then relying mainly on international models.

On another slightly-Vogue related note, I'm a bit surprised that Vogue doesn't have any editions in the Middle East (well, besides Vogue Turkey). Like in Israel or something. It's actually a rather stylish country. But I suppose it's probably about politics more then anything else.

BTW, some more opinions from Ukrainian fashion insiders about the upcoming Vogue and who should be on the cover.

"I think the debut cover should not be graced by a model. It should be a figure who is the face of fashion in Ukraine. A woman who is a symbol of Ukraine."
Sergei Byzov, creative direct of The Icon

"On the cover of the first issue, I personally envision Snejana Onopka. Or Ludmila Yanukovich (Ukraine's First Lady), whose interview would create a great demand."
Yulia Magdich, owner of the store Stchastie

"On the cover of the first issue, I'd like to see a Ukrainian face. The list of contenders can be substantial, and the choice for the editors in this case, very difficult."
Masha Shubina, artist

I'll be honest, I don't really know who the popular celebrities are in the Ukraine (and I'd love it if someone could educate me on this) but I'm a little surprised with Sergei Byzov's response. I would think a model would be a better fit for a first cover then a random celebrity, well, unless this person is really relevant to Ukrainian women. Because at least a model can show off the clothes...which helps market them as a fashion magazine not a typical "celebrity" magazine cover. Though, perhaps someone who knows more about the culture/famous people in the Ukraine, could tell me who they consider a "symbol" of the country? But I do think whomever they choose for the first cover should be Ukrainian... it's always important to provide opportunities for your own.

Would love it if Natalia Chabanenko got the cover. I just hope VU doesn't turn into what Vogue Russia is today.

YonihaAliza, I can't really think of one Ukrainian celebrity woman who could be 'the face' of the country, other than Yulia Tymoshenko, but I don't think the timing for her is right to be on covers of fashion magazinse. As far as Ukrainian celebrities with international appeal, I'd say Olga Kurylenko comes close, plus she has some fashion roots. Mila Kunis and Milla Jovovich are possible contenders, but they seem somewhat removed from Ukraine. But I agree with you, if the editors want to position the magazine as a HF magazine rather than a gossip rag, they will need to pick a HF model for the first cover.

Thank you MyNameIs for your insight! Milla and Mila are like you said, probably the most recognizable Ukrainian's (especially for people outside of the Ukraine), but I don't know if they would sit for the magazine. At least not for the first cover. Anyways, it'll be interesting to see what direction Vogue Ukraine goes in.

Some more Ukrainian "insiders" talking about the upcoming edition, I'll post their thoughts on who should cover the first issue.

"If we're talking about the model for the first issue, I envision Alla Kostromichova with blond curly hair."
Dasha Lahenberg, stylist

"For the debut cover, I always wanted to see a drawing, but of whom... that's complicated. I want Daria Shapovalova to be on the first cover."
Sasha Samsonova, photographer

"On the debut cover, I'd like to see Kate Moss with a wreath against a blue and yellow background."
Liza Fruman, co-owner of Otrada

"On the first cover, of course I would want to see a girl from Ukraine. Who is she? - there's a ton of possibilities. My vote goes for Alla Kostromichova."
Kostya Omelya, designer

"Who will be on the first cover, I have not the slightest idea. There's probably a "brand-book" [?] where this is being discussed. Of course there is the editor in chief who will decide, but I hope for it to be someone memorable, not just a famous face. So that you would want to open the magazine regardless of the name on the front."
Bob Basset, designer

"On the first cover, I'd like to see Naomi Campbell in a Ukrainian national dress."
Yana Chervinskaya, designer

"The debut cover is very representative for every publication, and therefore I think it'd be proper to have a Ukrainian top model with international name recognition - of which we have plenty."
Moi Sofism, photographer

"The most logical for the first issue would be to pick a Ukrainian top model with international status. Names such as Snejana Onopka, Viktoriya Sasonkina and Juju Ivanyuk, they need no further introduction."
Svetlana Bevza, designer

"Regarding the debut cover - I'm not convinced it's best to start with one of the top Ukrainian models. I really liked the first issue of Esquire, everyone loves Gary Oldman."
Valeria Kovalska, designer

"On the cover of the first issue, I'd like see a pregnant Giselle Bunchen."
Asya Mhitryan, Valentino boutique owner
(lol, she says she wants the magazine to be about fashion and not social gossip, but wants a pregnant Giselle on the cover, lol)
