^ Not all of them. I know quite a few Mormons that go to my public high school (might I add, quite a few of them are hoochie mamas).

^^ LOL, I'm from Mormonville #2 (outside of Utah, we're #2, we have a huge temple and everything!), and I'm actually baptised Mormon. They would freak out, but being such hyprocrites, some of them have been pregnant as well. One girl I used to be good friends with when I was younger got pregnant the year before last but her parents forced her to give it up. But err, Sienna, I'm guessing that there are not a lot of Mormons in London or Auckland?

Nah. But I am thinking of coverting so maybe there'll be one more. Is it any good for averting damnation?

And PoC, all universities are full of 'God whores'. But *mutters agnostic in the corner* are they any worse than those who use the term?

I doubt most universities have sectarian riots at their union and Hibz ut Tahrir operating on campus...

Hmmm, only if you're rich and are willing to buy your way into the temple! And I hope you're white with a freakishly cheery manner.

Well I was surrounded by chapel goers at university. And considering I am from secular Jewish North London, that was enough of a shock. From what I know of Hizb Ut Tahrir, they are merely pan-Islamist and against western imperialism. So it is more a political thing, than a religious one. Nor does it sound particularly radical.

Anyway, Whale Rider girl is *shock horror* unmarried. So Mormons would not approve.

I'll give that a miss on three counts then.

This is still SCANDALOUS...so many months later. Jesus...she hasn't grown into her looks either, so I can't see Hollywood embracing her after birth...she's screwed...

Well she is pregnant... And I didn't see her turning into a Hollywood success anyway. How many roles are there for girls who look like her? Its a shame.

I'm so sick of people commenting in this thread who know nothing about her cultural background. In Maori culture, family is the most important thing, above success and money. Due to the close-knit nature of families, it's not difficult for parents to have successful careers because the children are always raised by the entire family, not just the two parents.

you say this like its a bad thing to work in a supermarket ... tbh id be prouder of my daughter for working in a supermarket then being an actoress and she would have to work a damn sight harder thats for sure. Tbh Theres nothing sad about her working i a lower paid job, just if she works that an achievement in its self ... and doesnt rely on benefits etc.

Very good post Becky! Karma.

I agree with you though what is sad is not working in a supermarket but that Hollywood doesn't have many roles for Maori girls, or different people full stop.

Well, hopefully she'll make better decisions from now on. Everyone makes mistakes, it's about how you react and adapt. And yes, there's nothing wrong with those kinds of jobs. My mom worked at a 7-11 until she was 9 months pregnant with me (I was born 2 weeks late) and now she's a social worker. You can be successful if you have a child that young, it just takes A LOT of hard work and sacrifices. But you could say that about anything I suppose.

In the customs of New Zealand, it's perfectly normal to be pregnant at this age... and the age of consent is very young. Loads of people have mentioned this already.
I'm not sure I agree with this
I'm a new zealander, I'm 22. Not one of my friends/family has had kids at age 16. I think out of our whole school of 2,500 students only 2 girls had babies before they finished school. The age of consent is 16 (is that 'very young?) but that doesn't mean that everyone gets pregnant or even has sex when they are 16. I feel that comments like these are giving an incorrect image about New Zealand, and I also think you can't blame it on her culture either: that kind of thinking is very close to racism
