i can relate to what you're saying, bleufunk.
and von unwerth's work is definitely more playful, only i find her images very contrived, too ... but they don't offend me. |

I think Ellen Von Unwerth is the greatest working photographer alive!
She has a unique ability to bring out the "wild child" in all her subjects. She has a great eye for true beauty, and she is not afraid to express fun and sexuality in her work. She is a true professional, and her original editorials always have something new to say! |

I too prefer Ellen to Newton, mostly because her photos are just more aesthetic in my eyes. But both seem to be more often... somewhat sensitive conceptual artists. While composition is most important for me, because I'm just too dumb to sit around and think about how a woman is being portrayed. I have Newton's "Sex and Landscapes" book, and I just find that his landscapes are more beautifully photographed.
I understand what you guys are saying about Newton's fantasy image of women. But I see Ellen's fantasy women too. Maybe a lot of photographers do this. I don't really see anything wrong with it. It's art, make-believe. The difference between them I think though, is that Ellen's photographs are more alive. |

Ah, my apologies. I've been so used to just saying the source were my scans and seeing others do so. I shall make sure I go further from now on. As to the above post here's what I recall and can see from the scans, as I cannot find the magazine this minute and need to get to work

I adore her work! It is so sexy and doesn't seem exploitive. There always seems to be a level of fun in her pix.
