I am grateful I found this thread. I have seen some of the images before, but never knew who was the photographer behind them. He goes right to my favourites, that is for sure. He seems to make these clothes live on their own. Many times in fashion photography the clothes seem to be secondary and the setting or the model is on the focus; here it is vice versa.

I love his photogaphs so much, they have something special in them indeed! This picture is probably my favourite one, don't know why, but for some reason I simply adore it:

The Mail on Sunday ran a feature about a new book, Norman Parkinson: A Very British Glamour by Louise Baring, published by Rizzoli International Publications at £40 (dailymail.co.uk).

"He shook up fashion photography when he rejected the stuffy pretensions of the studio in favour of the real world. Norman Parkinson juxtaposed the ordinary and extraordinary with a spontaneity and humour that inspired through six decades. Here are some of his iconic shots."

1 Model Vicki Hilbert in Mexico City, 1966

2 Parkinson captures the art of travel in Vogue, 1951

3 Wedding outfits by Victor Stiebel, photographed from the top of a taxi in Eaton Terrace, Belgravia, London, 1938

4 Model Jerry Hall, wearing a swimsuit by Martil and sandals by Manolo Blahnik, photographed on the edge of the Black Sea during a 1975 tour of the USSR for Vogue

5 Wenda Parkinson (the photographer’s wife and muse, who died in 1987) models a Hardy Amies suit near Rotten Row, Hyde Park Corner, for Vogue in 1951

6 Wenda Parkinson in a suit by Dorville, hat by Simone Mirman and beaver muff by National Fur Co, photographed for Vogue in 1952

7 Model Jan Ward wears Jean Muir in Monument Valley, Utah, for Vogue, 1971

8 Wenda Parkinson in a Molyneux satin evening dress, for Vogue, 1950

9 A couple in East River Drive, New York, pictured in Go magazine in the early 1960s

10 Models strike a soignée pose amid the rubble at the London docks, for Vogue, 1957
