Hi guys, I am generally clueless about the fashion industry. I am wondering, about how long does it take to shoot an editorial (such as in Vogue) or an advertisement (let's say Calvin Klein, for example)? I've noticed that some stories are boring studio shots and some are beautiful outdoorsy nature shots. Is the difference in those just a boring photographer? Lack of funds?
Thanks.

but there are many variations
This is just from my sister's experience, but she has done shoots in two days and she has also been gone for a week on location.

British Vogue occasionally does stories on how long and what it takes to do an editorial, not just shoot. They had it in April and October as well (I think it was October).

an editorial shoot is usually 1-2 days of shooting unless it's an exceptiionally long story...there may be an extra day beforehand if there is enough budget for the photographer to set up his lighting if it is being shot in studio...
there are many days leading up to the shoot to prepare and several afterwards to wrap up...
advertising varies wildly depending on the job and the budget...
