Last week, the much-maligned stylist Rachel Zoe arrived in New York. She stood in the winter garden at Bottino, all five feet and a few inches tall, in an involuntarily oversized one-shoulder negative-size-four number. Her honey-colored limbs hung limp with several pounds of silver and gold chain attached at the wrist and finger level.

Ms. Zoe, who wears her blond hair boob-length and curled in that done-but-not sort of way, her skin resplendent and metallic, her eyes lined and her lobes bedangled, looks simultaneously older and younger than her 33 years. She has the sprightly, gamine physical presence and vocabulary of a teenager, but the steely-eyed, drawn look of someone who has not let anything interfere with her intentions. She is a “celebrity stylist,” an invisible figure who works to bolster the illusion that stars are always star-like.

But in this increasingly competitive tabloid market, which exhibits an ever-growing fascination with the more banal aspects of celebrity life, Ms. Zoe’s position has grown in significance, and it has pushed her out of the background and into the limelight herself. Each week, at least four of her well-taught denizens (Mischa, Mary-Kate, Rachel, Nicole, Lindsay and Jessica, to name but a few) occupy prime real estate in the glossy weeklies. Photographed on their way to the supermarket, the gym, the inevitable Starbucks or an envelope opening, they appear unnervingly, offhandedly primed for their constant close-ups.

it certainly doesn't help her that she is always either photographed next to a pretty young thing, or else dressing like one. it's pretty ironic that rachel is the one picking their clothes, and yet the result is that she is sometimes compared to her clients (and doesn't fair well in that comparison) and in fact her style is attributed to them.
i really think she looks older (in a tired way, not a mature way) partially because the other aspects are level - if carine roitfeld, with her crazy old face, were standing next to nicole richie, carine would look like a super cool woman, and nicole would look like a girl in funky clothes. instead, rachel looks like a used up version of nicole - IF nicole never used spf, smoked, and never got any sleep.

In the 'Tiny Big Sister" article it was said that she is the stylist of Mary-Kate Olsen. Is she truly? I can't see MK hiring her. I hear the Olsens have someone hired to help them find vintage but I really can't see them havinga daily stylist. They seem like the only young celebs that are creative and experimental with fashion on their own?

If only I could afford to have someone wandering around looking for great vintage finds for me.

I personally think Rachel looks gorgeous here and yes...being as great as she is in her job probably HAS pushed her from the background into the limelight and people are comparing her to 20 somethings and late teenage stars she is styling but remember...it's all about the fashion folks..not the stylists number of wrinkles she has on her face !

I think anyone that works her hours ( inclusive of being out late with some of her clients ) would make anyone have more wrinkles on their faces than they should.

Bravo to her for remaining natural in a plastic world

Her face always looks so tired and gaunt. And I agree, her fake tan is horrible.

I highly doubt that she's natural. The way she behaves and speaks of herself sounds phony. Anyone as self-obssesed as she sounds would go under the knife quickly.

A fake tan can not be compared to going under the knife.
They are both alterations but of different sort. If a fake tan is un - natural, we might as well stop plucking our eyebrows.
