Using or creating "ugly" models is deliberate in making an editorial statement ... it's meant to look strong, masculine and fearless. It's also intended to be the opposite of "pretty", which is usually soft and feminine.

So, even if you don't like "ugly" .... it gets your attention. So I would say this succeeds.
