just a few of the pictures that SERIOUSLY disturb me.

i understand that his childhood has an impact on his work, but i fail to see the artistic side of his photos, and i doubt i'm the only one.

his photos (the ones that don't look like bad porn) don't really intrigue me either.

There is a fine line between art and porn... beauty and smut... where do you draw that line?

I think Terry challenges this.

He's a disgusting pig. And an untalented disgusting pig, at that.

I'm so tired of people defending him with "oh he challenges our inherent bourgeois values of right and wrong" or "he redefines the line between art and porn". No he doesn't. HE DOES NOT. He is ****. And his work is ****. Plain and simple. I'm not shocked by his photographs because they are not shocking. Sex is not shocking anymore and hasn't been for a very long time.

I don't particualry like his work. Juregen Teller is better to put it simply.

He also uses point & shoot cameras a lot which might showcase either a lack or a hindsight of talent.

very over hyped, kind of stupid, but I do actually like his work, when he isnt making out with 14 year old models.

I think his work is funny albeit self-serving sometimes. I don't regard him as a great photographer but he is novelty and one I appreciate. I like his work but then I mean...there are a lot of things I LIKE.

psychology
I thought liz jagger & alex richards in a garbage can was blatantly condescending, even if they were too dumb to see that.

there's no doubt that terry builds abuse into his photographs and many models are either too stupid or too weak to see that & object. terry's never the object of derision or abuse in his pics is he, noticed that? when you see hundreds of his pics together you start to agree more with the people who say he's an untalented, abusive, screwed up sadist who claims he's off of heroin but his work is no better now in fact it's worse. his sisley campaign might be the only good thing he's ever done.

if anyone here thinks terry is great, maybe post 10 or more great photos he's shot? I've seen hundreds of his work for years and there are like 4 good ones.

he's pretty bad.

also his most famous 'muse' susan eldridge - notice she didnt really get as far as people thought she would? [she left him] terry's association HURT her career. shes another waeak and abused terry-object, not a smart girl except to leave him.

I don't think talent has much to do with it. I mean, he does the Aldo campaign, which is far removed from any of his other work. His father was a famous Vogue and Bazaar photographer so he probably has some idea about the technicalities of photography. And if he doesn't, so what? Steven Klein, Steven Meisel, David Lechapelle and countless others barely ever do any of the technical work behind the camera. They're more directors than photographers.

He can do as they do, hire assistants with the knowledge to be able to carry out his concepts. But he doesn't, he shoots on his Yashica and has a ton of fun and he gets paid for it. Sure, I'm not a big fan of his work, but I can respect that he has been able to build a foundation on something seemingly so fickle and controversial. To have been around for as long as he has, in a world where each season counts as a new cycle for some, is a great achievement.

He's basically been able to, and pardon my french, piss on Western society's various idealisms all the while being revered for it. And the funniest thing is that he might not even know he's doing it, from things I've heard him say.

So, basically, whether you like it or not, he's going to be around for a bit and probably find another replacement underage looking model mistress.
