Well, I really appreciate this cover after the horrid Lily Allen one.

I love that you mention En Vogue and SWV, makes me feel so nostalgic.

Well, the same can be said for white girls... The same pool of girls generally lands most covers (Kate, Lara...)

Why do they have to photographed with a graffiti background? Why not something edgy like Jourdan's ed in Vogue Italia earlier this year? It really is cliche. Things like this make me wonder if the staff at these magazines truly listen to and RESPECT previous, valid criticisms of their work in the past. I'm sure they realized it might upset some people and they did it anyway. It's borderline distasteful, and that's all I'll say about it. The models' themselves really saves this for me...

Furthermore, I'm respectfully asking that the mods' forbid the use of term 'ghetto' in this thread from this point on; it's a loaded term with many different understandings. I can see the thread being derailed and furthermore, I'd like to continue to visit it without becoming pissed, lol
could you please explain ?
you seem to refer to old critics iD would have encountered and I would like to know what those are ...
is it something related to the grafitti ?
in which sense grafitti can offend anybody ?

this thing seems to bother a lot of people and i would like to understand why ... coz ... i think i'm missing something there !

I don't find anything offensive about a graffiti background - there's plenty of it all around the UK and I don't automatically associate it with cliches about black people. In Northern Ireland there's a huge amount of street art which has absolutely nothing to do with the colour of someone's skin. My location means I've formed different associations, different meanings, about it.

If four models stand in front of a graffiti background - well, it's nice to have an outdoors shot of a group of girls, and like some others, the whole scenario does remind me more of En Vogue than anything else, because of what they're wearing.

When I look at the cover I think of the 80's. I forget the name of the music video that comes to mind.

The makeup looks 70s to me, and the clothes 90s.

nobody knows about them. Sessi, Chanel, Jourdan & Arlenis are on a whole different level. They've conquered the runways - people know about them. They're like the Sasha's, Vlada's & Snejana's in the industry - they're a group.

I love the cover, I think the girls look great (especially Sessilee!)

While I do agree that magazines do tend to run Jourdan & Co. a lot, girls like R'el and Georgie are making a name for themselves and I think that they will get covers soon enough.

Yeah, R'el hadn't even debuted when this cover was shot. I think she's about to turn the group of four into a group of five.

I have a new found appreciate for Jourdan and especially Arlenis' picture now that we have seem them enlarged. For Arlenis to be able to smile that big AND wink at the same time is an accomplishment. It's asking the face to pull in the exact opposite direction at the very same time and she did it oh so effortlessly!
