Generally, for someone to read the issue, they would have to be motivated enough by the suggestion of the contents to buy it in the first place. Stores don't generally like you standing around like it's a library, reading everything before you hand over your fiver.
And I can completely understand why someone might not like the sound of this issue. While it's true that scans won't give you the full story about the contents, if someone doesn't like what they see or hear so far, an illuminating editor's letter might not make much difference, especially if you think contents should speak for themselves in a clear way. And surely oxymoronic opinions are simply the result of different people expressing different opinions, rather than posters being confused and deluded. I find everyone's views to be very interesting, especially if there's a divide where some adore the issue and others detest it.

^Its funny that you said how stores don't like people standing and reading cause thats what I did yesterday and nothing really caught my eye but I guess Love isn't my thing plus the price that was at the store didn't make it appealing either :/

I think stores should be more liberal about letting people browse, it makes for a more positive environment, and you're likely to want to buy more when there's helpful staff rather than from shops which chide people for taking any interest in what's on sale.

The socialist approach to magazine consumption! Were you motivated to buy it at some later stage, after getting the time to go through it?

I think it's fair to point out that they're are not many places that will let you/want you to read an entire issue cover to cover without purchasing.

So I never got round to buying the first issue when it came out (and instantly regretted it when the guy in RD Franks told me it had sold out everywhere), but I made sure I purchased this one because I knew one of the ameteur boxers in 'Boxer Beat' and was curious to see how the pictures turned out...
The one thing I have to say I disliked about this magazine the most is not the questionable 'talent' but the way it's written. Is it just me or is this magazine/issue written kind of horribly? Sort of colloquial and dumbed down, I don't know if I'm even explaining my point very well! |

I still haven't gotten issue 2, but I feel like LOVE is more about the pictures. Katie Grand has talked about increasing the editorial quality, but I'm guessing she hasn't quite gotten there yet.

It's interesting that the topic of browsing the issue before buying has come up. I figured that with this issue of Love I would just read the articles that interest me in Barnes and Nobles and not buy it. However I can't find Love in Barnes and Nobles at all. However there are tons of them at regular little magazine shops where I definitely can't get away with sitting down and reading the entire issue. I was wondering if it was coincidence.

Tavi posted her own shots from this issue, but they are just digital pics, not good scans.
