I know no French practically so I will do my best to translate the features with the help of my dictionary. God help us all!
Here's the very rough translation, but enough to give you the gist for Helena Christensen's feature: UNE FILLE UN STYLE An obsessional collector, a monomaniac for all things Chinese, the ex- top model decorates her place with items that each have a story behind them (some amusing, others sad or just plain strange) . Masculine or feminine, vintage or label, her style looks as though she just stumbled off the runway. With elegance. ONE GIRL A Christmas surprise of the year 1968 (she was born on the 25th December). Helena Christensen is Danish from her father's side and has the dusky, darkish complexion from her Peruvian mother. She oozes with a mix of fire and ice and therefore it's really not surprising that she became a supermodel star. She has something of the sexy and melancholic about her which is also reflected in her style. A photographer, she has also opened Butik, a unique space in her part of West Village in new York. Somewhere between a concept store and a closet of curiosities, it is here that she sells ( among others) the first pieces from "Christensen and Sigersen," the collection which she has just launched with Leif Sigersen. Dresses in linen, skirts and pants all of which are modest. " A feeling of country-style vintage along with a lot of details ( such as pleats, ribbons...), all with a very pure spirit." ONE STYLE "No style. I like mixing it up." In her wardrobe is a good dose of high-street (TopShop, Anthropologie, Urban Outfitter) and a solid base of faultless designers (Marni, Dries Van Noten, Marc Jacobs, Prada and Chanel). The idea is never to be literal. " I always need to wear clothes that suit me, even if it means sewing a dress." Then she will wear an evening dress by Calvin Klein with an embroided, vintage top or a big belt with flowers. DAY Dresses and flat sandals for Summer. And possibly a pair of jeans, but no always. NIGHT At night she goes for dressing-up.Shorts which have been re-cut into a very mini skirt by Blumarine, embroided Mexican dress or just her black men's suit from Dior Homme by Hedi Slimane. TROUSERS She poses in her skin-tight jeans, but consistently opts for the masculine types, as she finds them to be more flattering. Her choices: Helmut Lang or Ann Demeulemeester. SHOPPING "Nothing for weeks and then one day I'll return home with 10 second-hand dresses. I also like to go to Marc Jacobs, since it is just down from my place, or to John Derian, in East Village, as it shares much of my own aesthetics." Otherwise, she goes down to her shop for the Danish labels Norgard, Camilla Stark, Baum und Pferdgarden or Ivana. " When I buy for Butik, I do so as if I were buying for myself." ACCESSORIES She wears a little jewellery, that she finds slightly damaged when going through treasure-troves when she's bargain-hunting. " But I always have the impression that I go over- the- top." SHOES Many flats and an obsession this season: for sequins ( she has accumulated three pairs of Marc Jacobs , a pair from Miu Miu and another from Top Shop, all of them sparkling). TABOO Freaky nails. "But it's just a question of taste." BAGS (Couldn't make any sense of this bit. )PARFUMS Grey Flannel, the new edition from Jeffrey Beane; Prada, Marc Jacobs and Eau Noire by Christian Dior. MAKE-UP " I like to keep it to a minimum, because whenever I make a mistake I have to take-off the makeup. And that is a pain in the neck." Her preferences: A red mouth and whatever gives the face a healthy glow. BEAUTY " I've only just come round to buying my first pot of Creme de la mer. Apart from the price, it is very nice." Dr Perricone's Day Cream, Kiehl's cucumber tonic, C.G Bigelow's Body Cream. ESSENTIALS A Konika, a Pentax, a Holga , a Leica (all camera models). Helena is preparing an exhibition for the Groninger Museum in Rotterdam for this forthcoming November. HOME A loft in West Village which opens up onto a patio of blooming roses. The atmosphere is one of an enchanting second-hand shop. A welcoming and well thought out bric-a-brac, in essence of crisp details. " It's not neccasary to pay too much attention to details, it's the overall look that works." |

I'll just help with the translation .For the paragraph about her 'bags' (Helena Christensen's article), it says :'I always find it strange that people need to get into a fight for a bag'(she means that people get crazy over trendy bags). She's no fashion victim then . She likes what is special and yet simple, like those three purses by Martin Margiela (to which she added a strap in black satin to be able to carry them on her shoulders), and the YSL model with big ties. She's particularly proud of her latest purchase : a velvet schoolbag by Marc by Marc Jacobs.'
I have the Sarah Lavoine article, I'll scan it whenever I can. |
