yay for vanessa on her second VI cover, but wtf on choosing marlon? simon n. would have been a better choice since he has worked with meisel in the past.

Yes, I agree... maybe some feminists would say there are actually some women violence messages hidden in this cover, just like some vintage Dolce campaigns..... and yes,
Marlon? he's the complete opposite of a Meisel boy, maybe that's why he chose him, they are trying to sell us sex... Meisel boys are alternative and somehow quirky; Marlon on the other hand is just sex... and sex sells (cliche I know, but it's been an universal truth for ages).

Now, Vanessa, Such a stunner here!... maybe the pose is a little bit odd for me, it looks quite uncomfortable, but the intensity in her face is priceless.

Could have been great. But she's not aggressive enough for this.

I see his name on top of Hommes all the time that it almost feels like a tFSer.

I somehow find this less violent and a more [dull] ode to the days of Axl and wild groupies, which none of these two models are selling to me, he's pulling that hair as in is this.. kerastase? instead of come over here...

That's what I mean, e.g. if I were trying to sell sex on a Vogue Italia cover using a boy on his early 20s , I would probably think of Simon or Simone... sexy boys who are easy to relate to high fashion...

Now, if they were looking for the aesthetic of the tanned Californian bad boy on his motorcycle, ŗ la Matt Dillon on Rumble Fish.... then Marlon is perfect casting. Even so, I'm not a fan of this concept.

Thanks for the info... I even had no clue if he was a model or some random celebrity appearing in gossip newspapers every two days or so (after I saw so many people complain about his presence on this cover, I had troubles figuring out who and especially what he could be).

And you just made me laugh like mad with your kerastase story.

the concept would have wrked had it been a stronger model. Here it seems to posed as opposed o fierce, maybe they needed Tyra to come and direct it..I imagine Adriana Lima's look would have saved the cover

Interesting. Very very interesting. This makes me excited for the editorial, can't wait to see where this concept is going.

Am I the only one who finds this a tad pornographic? WHen I saw this for the first time, what immediately sprang to my mind was anal sex, S&M etc. Vogue Italia addresses topical issues, and I wouldn't be surprised if this is inspired by the whole Fifty Shades of Grey phenomenon. I could be wrong, of course, but if that indeed was what they were going for, then I'm afraid it's kind of lacklustre.

That's the thing - I reckon it could have been so much better. Because of the fold-out, you have three pages to play with - three 'frames' of a story.

Let's say the first frame would be a girl on a motorbike with masses of hair flowing in the air. Then you'd get to the second frame, and see the guy doing something to make that happen, so you'd realise the first frame isn't what it seemed at first sight. Then in the third frame, the backdrop would fall away, and you'd see the whole thing is an illusion.

Each page of the fold-out would take you though a story of things not being what they seem.

Instead, we have a male model holding a fistful of hair - did her neck need ventilation? - and a studio backdrop that looks like someone forgot to secure it properly.

Agree about it being a brilliant fold-out. And Vanessa is really bringing it here, like a current day Jerry Hall. I love everything about it.

Does Meisel even have male favorites? I would assume if he did, that Simon would be because he used him for two consecutive issues back in 09 (Sept/Oct 09) Marlon is hot as hell, but I agree Simon would look better there.
