Yep, I think this is the case. Also I remember two storied styled by Grace Coddington and shot by Meisel in Vogue Italia as well. I think they were also supposed to be in Vogue US but got cut in the end. Vogue Japan also used a few rejected editorials from Vogue US, e.g. the original "color blocking" editorial in September 2007 issue if you watched "The September Issue".

That makes sense! Well, especially in this case at least. Her editorial looks awful.

I´m so dissapointed that Gemma didn´t get the cover
I´m so tired of the 70s folksy styling, Meisel´s ed does nothing for me... the only redeeming story in this mag is Klein´s imo.

Well the main story ended up being as dull and ugly as the cover. Probably the video will save this.
Joan by Klein is the best thing on this issue and Miles' ed reminded me Red Alert by Meisel

The main editorial is so charming. I might be biased, though, as a life-long thrift store and flea market addict...

Love seeing Valerija again with Meisel. Wish she had more shots. She is such an underrated editorial powerhouse. She is so versatile and has such a quiet strength and intensity that is so rare in a model these days. I always feel like she could be (with more exposure) this generation's Guinevere van Seenus.

Looking forward to the video.

I think I would have liked Jamie Bochert to have taken centre stage in the cover story, this is the sort of thing she can make come alive, because she can bring soul to it. Otherwise, it's just a story about a half-hearted bohemian mess.

While I don't love the cover neither its editorial (Valerija was such a nice surprise, though), I'm enamoured by the haunting "Stills from the Past" and by the weird "It's All About Gesture". Nicki Minaj looks good (!) as well.

This editorial is amazing, but I can't stand the ugly green filter they used

I expected something completely different from the cover story but I really like it. I just think it feels more appropriate for the October or the November issue. In fact, I think Carolyn's November cover and cover story would be much better suited to December. 'It's All About Gesture' feels pretentious and overthought which is a shame coming from Klein/Goodman/Smalls. As for Aldridge, I love where he went with the direction and location but the images are ruined by that green tint. Overall, the issue feels uninspired and dull considering how high the bar was set by the cover..

Meisel's ed is spectacular. It reminds me of Bruce Weber's docu-fashion photos. Like stills from real people in the real world. Amazing production, casting and styling.

Oh wow, that's one of the best VI covers I've seen in quite a while. I love the mysterious, melancholy feel.
