Unless you mean as a memorial, Katoucha died a few months ago...

I've been waiting for this thread for a few days now and the number of reactions to this thread is so huge, it's great and also sad that it comes to this to see Black models in a mainstream mag.

Liya, Jourdan's and Naomi's covers are amazing! Don't like Sesilee's cover though

WOW. Those covers are stunning. Not really typical for VI, but I never mind a stunning close-up as the cover! All four girls look fantastic.
I also love that it's a fold-out cover, because it would have been expensive to buy all four covers
All the inside pictures look amazing, too. I really can't wait to get this!

why are the covers so good? I don't undestand it, they are the typical close-ups, and the "moved" effect is terribly done Unfortunatley it seems that some of the pictures of the ed are moved too. Sorry, but so far I find it really weak.

To be honest... I love all these pix but I am not really fond of things like Black Issue or something... i think it makes Black models more segregated from white ones, which the whole discrimination issue, though I give credit to Vogue Italia for affirmative actions towards black models who usually are more excluded... I am surely getting this issue...

Sesilee and Naomi's covers are FLAWLESS, I like the other two as well actually, I hope this is a dawn of a new era, I will say that Chanel definately deserved the cover more than Jourdan, I know this forum's favour lies with Jourdan, but Chanel has had some pretty big milestones in her short career, and hard work wise she deserved it more. Though Jourdan is more beautiful and probably a better cover subject. Bravo to the Editor and Meisel for this masterpiece, hopefully it will really change things up for the SS09 Runway and Editorial line ups. It's phenomenal, what more can you say? It really has surpassed my expectations. Though I think Jourdan, Sesilee or Naomi should have got the main front cover.

Also could I ask, has Meisel ever photographed Tyra before?

There is an interview in the New York Times with Franca Sozzani, Editor-in-Chief Vogue Italia about this issue

I know Meisel shot Tyra for a Dolce campaign and maybe a Vogue edit before...

^That is gorgeous. Who is that, Sesilee? That looks like a cover itself, in fact it would have made a beautiful one.

Finally someone said what I think too. I don't like any of those covers, they looks more like covers of Glamour magazine or something but not VOGUE . Especially when we used to see such great covers of Vogue Italia. If you want to see some good examples visit this thread: http://www.thefashionspot.com/forums...ive-56459.html
I feel realllyyyy disappointed, Steven Meisel could have done it so much better . Anyways, these pics are way too airbrushed for my taste.
