I read the comment on rock.the.trend.com

Quote:
"Kamila Filipcikova got two consecutive Vogue Italia covers this year. Every black model in the history of time (and the new) got crammed into one issue.”

Does anyone know which article about this VI comes from?

She changed alot indeed !! I don't know she has struggled in this field for 4 years that long , I mean she is not bad in the past , but she can get out of the manly look , right now in this issue she is more elegant and her eyes expression is charming .

What he means, I think, is that the light and make-up are so strong that you can't almost tell their skin colour is black (in some pics). I was wondering the same thing actually. Why make an all black issue and make them look so pale, instead of emphasizing their beautiful skin tone?

Sessilee's portraits look like outtakes from Essence circa 1985. If Noemie Lenoir is not in this issue, I will be really upset.

IMO we need to move away from from looking at diversity purely in the sense of skin colour...we also need to think in terms of diversity of age & even personality. Personality has been a dirty word in the modeling business for some time now...because the idea was to get away from the whole supermodel era & create a bunch of blank canvases for designers...stylist & photographers to show their work on. When I buy a magazine or look at an editorial...I don't give a damn what the model's skin colour is...as long as she exudes some personality & has the ability to inspire & make me dream.

That's definitely true - and part of that, I think, is a fixation of body rather than face. The face shows more personality - undeniably - and there has been an extreme focus on body ever since 2000 or so.

And the covers - Naomi's looks great, and so does Sessilee - she really does steal this away from everyone else. She's the only one who looks like a 70s YSL model. Liya's cover looks beautiful, but as always, I'm wondering if it works once we get the HQ...

I'm wondering what everyone was expecting the girls shot in b&w to look like. I mean, that's basically what happens to anyone that doesn't have very dark skin when they're photographed in black and white....it shows up as a light shade of grey.
