Amen.

They say Anna Wintour is a very clever business woman, looks like Sozzani is catching up now This whole issue seems like a rather nasty marketing trick to me. I hate how they made a theme based on skin colour ('a black issue')

Maybe I'm wrong though. Time will tell. I'm curious to find out how many black girls will have editorials in the upcoming issues of VI.

And even more curious to see how this issue will influence runway castings. How influential is VI? Can't wait to see the results.

True, but they could have done it in colour then, non? Anyway, let's move on from this issue

But why should they have had to do the photos in color, so that it's made explicitly clear that these women have brown skin, not beige? Why take away from the beauty of the photos and treat these models any differently than white models?

I mean, we all know that these models are black and that the issue is devoted entirely to black women, so can't the photos detach from that and just be photos of beautiful women?

That's a good point. I think I was just wondering that since they're emphasizing the "blackness" of the models so much and want to make some kind of statement, they would try to show the beauty of black girls and not just of any beautiful model.

What you're saying is probably (or most likely) the aim of this issue & statement. Models shouldn't be chosen (nor rejected) because of their race or skin colour, but rather because of their looks/personality/versatility/etc. In the end it all depends on whether the model can transform the designer's or photographer's vision.

I completely agree with you, I just would have done it in a different way if I wanted to make a statement (why didn't Meisel ask me, btw? )

BUt it is in color, no? The cover shots, at least Sessilee's, looks like it comes from the same edit as the black & whites. And this is only one edit were seeing. If the whole magazine are these B&W shots, then we'll have something to argue about.

Yes, some pictures are in colour. And actually, we shouldn't talk about that before we've seen the whole ed, we've only seen like 5 pages out of 100!
I'm sorry I brought it up in the first place

When they say Europe they just mean Italy.

I inquired in 3 major magazine stores that carry international titles and we will not get the July issue until next month. Possibly the second week I was told.

I nearly died inside.

Q: What the black issue a political gesture?
A: I didn’t feel it was a political gesture. Maybe it was political in that when I see all these girls who look alike in a fashion show, they really annoy me. We need to see beautiful clothes on beautiful women
WORD! You tell 'em Franca.

i need this magazine in my life. and i really only ever flick through paris vogue, so this will be the first time i purchase one

on another less desperate note, I am so proud of Jourdan Dunn words cannot express how happy I am that shes been so successful. Meisel is so on point on everything, i think i saw a sessilee lopez picture, she looks a m a z i n g!!!!!

VI is always out here in Holland between 10 or 14 days after it's Italian release...perhaps that gives some indications to anyone....
