I'm not going to turn this into the Tyra or no Tyra thread but since I was the one who complained first I suppose I should just explain myself. Its really just a matter of personal preference - some people will be happy to see Tyra and others will be perturbed. I never enjoyed her as a model, even before she was omnipresent on television I just never "got" what the big deal was about her look. To me her face is commercial and unspectacular albeit pretty. That said, Meisel chose her for a reason so I don't have sour grapes, I'll just be paying more attention to the likes of Jourdan, Liya, Sessilee, Ubah, Arlenis Yasmin, Noemie, Gail, Iman and Naomi They're just my kind of girls whereas Tyra isn't. Its not even so much a knock on her personality quite frankly I just can think of a few other equally deserving models who I would have loved to see shot by Meisel instead. I echo the sentiment earlier in the thread that Kinee would have been a lovely addition or if were going for some girls from the past how about Kiara Kabakuru?

But I don't make the choices at Vogue Italia so it all good.
There are so many wonderful girls in this issue that there is really something for everyone.

On to non-Tyra subject matter, there has been loads of talk about the Meisel edit but what about the other content in the issue! Any word on that? I would love to hear if the rest of the issues editorials follow the Black Issue theme or are they seperate?

I thought that Meisel was going to shoot every single edit in this issue?

Well I felt exactly the same way when I saw Tyra's pictures, I was like the only thing this woman ever says is "Booty" or "Fierce" and her behaviour a lot of the times can only be described as inexplicable. Though the fact is, at least in my opinion she could have been a high fashion model for a lot longer had she not made the choice to go down the Sports Illustrated/Victoria Secret. The fact is she was a gorgeous/fresh faced natural beauty when she started (very skinny and wonderfully ethnic looking, a lot like Chanel and Jourdann are now). Lets not forget she IS IS IS more than just a bathing suit model, she is a beautiful woman who did high fashion and worked against the grain and got Dolce and Gabbana, Yves Saint Laurent and Covergirl campaigns, on the merit of her beauty, which is no small task, and so in that sense she did break the mould, her Naomi and Liya's work in the early 90s is the reason why this issue is so beautiful and relavant today.

Her career is pretty much like Doutzen's, very high fashion to begin with but as her body and face matured she's going more down the Victoria Secret/L'Oreal route. Chanel Iman may do the same thing as her body matures. So for the reason that she's worked with Meisel and other great photographers and brands before it would be silly to not include her, I see Tyra as someone who if she had kept her mouth closed I would still think she's beautiful and elegant. Unfortuntely she did open her mouth, and revealed some frightening facets of her inner psyche. Anyway, she's loaded I doubt she cares, all I'm saying is you can't take her high fashion work away from her because Naomi has done VS too and she's PLENTY of problems of her own. Say what you will about Tyra but at least she hasn't ever been arrested or thrown a blackberry at someone. Naomi's fabulous and Tyra is obnoxious but Tyra does deserve to be here. Just as if this issue was done in ten years and Chanel Iman gets her wish to be a Victoria Secret model, she would still be included for her High Fashion work.

I think she should be included. she did some pretty big high fashion gigs
Strutting and posing for some of the most notable fashion houses today
Chanel, Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Dolce and Gabbana, Sonia Rykiel, Versace, Giorgio Armani, Marc Jacobs (Perry Ellis days), Oscar de la Renta, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfigure, Claude Montana, Thierry Mugler, Herve Leger, Isaac Mizrahi etc

She has shot with some of the biggest photographers: Steven Miesel, Herb R., Patrick Demarchilier, Paolo Roversi, Arthur Elgort, Annie L., Francesco Scavullo, Richard Avedon, Gilles Bensimon.

I think this girl needs at least some mention!

Umm, she is a super. She made her name big from modeling. (Is there some other definition of a real super not the Zimmerman kind (as much as I like that girl)?) By that argument Heidi Klum is just a "lingerie and bathing suit model with some tv shows" . I'm not a Tyra fan but she was and is bigger than any of the girls that were in the last V supermodel issue.

Sorry to divert the topic. Patiently waiting for VI .

Perhaps we can take some of this lively discussion to the Tyra thread itself.

Might be just me, but that link isn't directing me to any thread in particular.

Well, one thing Tyra has done is that she did bring black models into ANTM, and therefore brought them back into the equation, though ANTM isn't about fashion, it is to some extent about celebrity and commercial modeling.

So although she is pretty unbearable, she did something good and she belongs in the issue.

Tyra is one of the most successful black models ever and absolutely deserves to be in the issue. I don't think there should even be a question.

Tyra is probably one of the most famous model in the world too. I don't know anyone who doesn't know who she is.

Well fer19dog... Tyra is part of the Vogue Ialia July Black Issue & that's what this discussion is about... so if you would like to change the subject then you're more than welcome to post another topic regarding the issue.
