I work in a business that deals with the distribution of these mags and the simple explanation for the on sale dates being almost a month in advance is competition. In the U.K. all the big women's mags are on sale in the first week of the month now but this wasn't always the case.
Some were on sale in the middle towards end of month but began to pull forward one by one, so now Conde Naste who publish Cosmo, Vogue, Glamour etc. have all their own mags competing against each other.
Go figure.

Another reason they apparently release magazines a month before the date on the cover is to keep them looking current whilst they are on sale. So whether you buy it at the beginning of say, January or the end of January your still looking ahead.

I read an article on this once and it's mainly cos of competition but also this is a factor.

I find it odd that Sasha's recent UK Vogue covers have been so girly and plain...they should better reflect this season's trends...

I like the cover and think it's cute, but I'm done with Sasha. There is absolutely no need for any one model to be on covers of 5 different magazines every single months. There are tons of talented, interesting, beautiful models who would look just as great if not better on any of those covers. That's one thing I absolutely hate about the fashion industry - their obsession with one girl (or a number of them) to a point where they become painfully unbearable.
