Truth is, people want to see this more than Karlie wearing Lanvin on the cover. If you don't like it then don't buy it.
But the typical W consumer does. Just look at the make-up of TFS. These are the people who are buying fashion magazines like W. People who want celebrity fashion tend to buy In Style, Vogue, or Bazaar. The people who want high fashion buy W and V and the like. It is one of the few remaining US publications that do focus on high fashion.

They may be appealing to the people magazine buyers out there (and lets face it, there are more people that buy people than W) but they are alienating a portion of their readers by focusing on something that isn't fashion.

I know some people in this thread are saying that they would be ok if it were anything but the art issue, but I think W is trying to get around the fact that this is tabloid material but attempting to masquerade it as art. If it was a regular issue, everyone would be saying "where is the fashion?" and "shouldn't this be in people/vanity fair?" as well. I feel like W is trying to weasel around the whole fashion/art thing.

Of course you say don't buy it. Well, a lot of people have subscriptions. They are the ones being cheated the most because W already has their money. I am personally conflicted about buying it. I have liked the art issue in the past, but before they really put out the effort to legitimize themselves by working with top artists and people who have dedicated their lives and careers to art. I will have to see if the inside content is worth the cover spread.

I love Brangelina!
Brad's a good photographer.
He's gradually showing more and more his artistic side.
and that's a good thing!

Please. These pictures are from august and have been planned for the november issue, no matter the financial crisis.

look-
the economic crisis has been going on LONG before august of this year....
especially int he US...
and publishing has been hit harder than most industries for quite some time-
due in no small part to the rise in popularity of online reading...

so i think that the assertion made by chrissy is a reasonable one...
and frankly...
i think that the magazine would freely admit to it...
it's actually very very smart as far as marketing goes...

all magazines survive on ad sales and marketing..
so there's nothing shameful or unusual about it...

we wouldn't have those beautiful fashion pictures we all love so much if the magazine wasn't smart about surviving in a very difficult climate...

I do like this cover! I think it is very unexpected from her. I can't wait to see the full lay out.

Upon first time viewing this cover, I thought .. Hmm what? Wasn't Angie on the Art Issue last year too? ...

I mean yes, the art issue should be about the marriage and relationship between art & fashion, but instead it's being used to promote two people who are already the reigning queen & king of the entertainment world.. I really don't understand this cover choice.

But at the same time, I think that this is a beautiful cover. It's so innocent, alluring and poignant, but also very controversial as she is breastfeeding on the cover. Yes, Brad isn't an artist and shouldn't be shooting the cover of the art issue but at the same time I feel that if this was shot by someone else, there wouldn't be so much bitching in the thread.

All in all, I think this is a beautiful cover but not suitable for the art issue and yes, W has been going downhill lately.

guess the "marketing" is working well .....

and why so much hate in this thread ???!!!
calm down, guys ....... it's just a cover. not the US elections .....

for my part, i don't get why they've chosen a family portrait for an art dedicated issue. but this seems very american crisis, non ?
when a country is in crisis, we like to look back at the past and family values, non ? and i'm sure people love a woman after she "delivered" the babies .....
and one point : on the cover the main title seems to be the Brad&Angelina private portfolios ..... not the Art !
so maybe it makes sense. or maybe i just don't get AT ALL what's going on there. which is possible ..........

now ..... let's wait for what's inside ....

Angelina is one of the best actresses I've ever seen. She's a good person too, she's not shallow and mediocre like many of today's "celebs" (think Lindsay Lohan or Blake Lively). She cares about people living an ocean away from her and actually takes the time to do something about it instead of just whining. That alone sets her apart from your average actress/singer. She's also extremely gorgeous and photogenic. So let me get this straight...she's nice to look at, interesting to read about and is famous??? Why would ANYONE want to put her onto a cover of a magazine??? How ridiculous!

Some people SERIOUSLY need to get over themselves. Especially the ones who think they're so superior that they can dictate what is art and what is not. The moment something slips out of your comfort zone you automatically attack it? And you actually are offended by the fact that W maybe put Angelina on the cover to generate sales? Um, they make that magazine to make money. Without money, it wouldn't exist.

"Art" doesn't mean extremely tall,**** and masculine faced models decked in strange couture pieces posing in ridiculous, ungraceful positions with Edward Scissorhands hair and clown make up. That's not what "fashion" is either. It may not be your "type" of art, but it is, indeed art.
Jeez ,This is the strangest post I've read in ages...

i think there is a misunderstanding - that i made myself first ....
Angelina portrait isn't consider "art" by W itself.
the Art title is up on the cover and isn't part of the Angelina and Brad private portfolio ....

but both titles are linked in the sense most of the artists named are portraitist ....
Peyton (friends and famous personnalities), Roni Horn (works a lot on portraits - friends, family mainly), Eggleston (portrays the US country - anonymous people and paysages) .... I just know one video of Mika Rottenberg, so I cannot find the link there except she is american ....
etc.

So in a way all this makes sense, now to me.

but I repeat W doesn't consider Angelina's portrait as being art-y .....
they just choose her to sell ....
present a family US portrait ....
like most of those artists do .....

That the would be a more PC approach but I am not very PC. LOL Anyway back to the topic...do we have anymore pictures from this issue?

don't some people think it's kind of natural that angelina graces the cover of W after she's given birth to kids when Steven Klein shooted them for W while they were starting their love affair ?!
