Right, it's a natural progression...I wonder how many pages of this thread there will be when the photos inside are posted

Truth is, people want to see this more than Karlie wearing Lanvin on the cover. If you don't like it then don't buy it.
You are quite right. But if that is the case then W is not buying nor presenting the cover image on its gossip-worthy rather than artistic merits (which is what Luxx was discussing). Unless we are taking the "art is subjective" philosophy to such extremes that the word loses all meaning.

(I'm sure I saw a post somewhere here where someone posited that "motherhood is an artform". I should tell my mother so that she may present herself at the Guggenheim for display since I think she's quite an awesome Mom.)

I just recognize she´s breast feeding at this pic on the cover. I didn´t see it at the first time. Can´t wait for the inside!

i wonder what other photo choices there were for the cover , if there were any.

as for Brad being the photographer of this issue; whether or not it's artistic in ones opinion, i think it only makes sense he had full control. he takes pictures as how he sees his family - his passion, to me, that's artistic in itself, not some celebrity photographer who captures images.

from what i hear, the other children are in it too... can't wait to see the finish product.

I can't wrap my head around the fact that this thread has become so intense just over an angelina jolie cover.

Maybe a couple of good editorials to surface in the coming days (hopefully there's one by Mert & Marcus) could take the attention somehow away from Angelina...

Well i do not agree, Like someone already said art is subjective but no so subjective to the point that it loses all it's meaning, a philosophical concept of art actually exists and for what I studied it does not apply here . Not all forms of expression are art sometimes they are just simply that, forms of expression, the picture of that cover is exactly the same as millions of people's pics of mothers that most of us have in our family albums and no one would dare be so pretentious to call them art. Why are Brad pictures art for some and my family pictures are not? He took the pictures probably because he like millions of us think motherhood is a good subject and he wanted to capture a tender moment, he happens to be famous so they end up in a magazine cover, but is that art? Just because your subject is a celebrity and beautiful does that automatically put you in the same step as the likes of Nan Goldin?

so you mean to tell me the W issue of Steven Klein with Brad and Angelina isn't or is it art? - It was shown in the art gallery, and it was magnificent.

regarding Brad's photography, I deemed it as art. Apparently W think so too. wait till you see the rest. many posts judgement based on the cover.

Yes, context is all. And so is celebrity.

I'm looking forward to seeing the editorial, because that is where they have the freedom to experiment and come up with something arty. The cover's a commercial entity, it's got our attention, now it's time for the main course.

Hopefully there will be some straight fashion stuff in this issue as well.

I'll bet as soon as the contents are released, the new US Vogue will have appeared, and we'll all be debating in that thread instead.

You all are probably much older than me, so you should start acting like it.
I think it's a sign that we're all talked-out about the cover, so there's nothing new to be said, and impatience for the contents is making people testy, when they don't mean to be.

i know we don't have to sound harsch or anything .... not to shock the young people or anyone .... and i tried in my previous posts there to be kind with anyone feelings ....

but enough is enough : W isn't the right magazine to teach/declare us what is art and what is not .... eventhough they open their pages to art .... i'm pretty sure they don't even want to or pretend to ....

October can teach me what is art .... a curator, as well .... not a fashion magazine or a fashion editor in its/his/her role as a fashion magazine or a fashion editor. and eventhough, i'm pretty interested by the relationships btw art and fashion, i'm sure those relationships are not present in this particular issue.
W is there to tell me what is fashion (and they truly manages to open my mind about fashion .... i remember some of their un-fashion stories that were great ....). But if they want to teach me what is art .... maybe first they should change their redactionnal lines. or hire someone as a guest-editor who could, eventually, change my opinion and/or share with the public something interesting that could link fashion to art, art to fashion.

this is a NON-END debate, I know for sure.
and .....
no time to debate about it more than this

.... but i'm sorry Brad Pitt is not an artist. he is an amateur photog' who just have good relationships with W and offered for this special issue his family album (an issue with american artists, i repeat and i think this is important in this case, mainly working about portraits and persons and individuals) and judging the pics that just have been posted .... he is really amateur .....

I feel nothing in front of this.
but this is subjective, non ?

omg i needed to tell this. so no offense to your particular post smartarse. but unfortunately, you were the one on this page ..........
