Some pics are lovely.

The other pics have try-hard and forced written all over them. He basically snapped a couple of random photos, altered them into grainy black and white, and said WOW. This is artistic! It's B&W!

I could do the same with a couple of squirrels outside my dorm.

There are no fashion eds. Just art. Brad's pictures are not featured in the Art section at all. Just intimate photos of his family that will sell this issue.

Brad's Photos of Angelina: The Back Story

Brad Pitt's project for W actually sprang from a conversation W's Creative Director Dennis Freedman had with another photographer, Bruce Weber. Freedman had been mulling over how to show anything new about one of the most photographed women in the world and Weber pointed out that, in his opinion, the best pictures of Elizabeth Taylor were taken by her third husband, Mike Todd.

"I was surprised that Brad accepted the challenge," says Freedman of Pitt's enthusiastic response. "Last time we collaborated, I was struck by his sensitivity to the subtleties of photography. I knew that he possessed a highly tuned critical eye and would be very demanding of himself. Still, I wasn't prepared for the beauty and intimacy of the images he made of Angelina and the children."

For a hobbyist, Pitt certainly knew what he wanted. He was determined to shoot Jolie with Kodak Tech Pan film, which hasn't been manufactured for four years. Photo Editor Nadia Vellam located 40 rolls of the stuff on eBay, which a courier then hand-carried to Pitt in Provence, France, where the couple have been hiding out since June.

A week later Pitt called; he needed more film. Vellam's first source was tapped out. She finally tracked down a guy who offered her 30 rolls -- in Israel. She then had mere hours to find someone in Tel Aviv who could get on a plane to France with the film that very day.

Pitt also wanted to try a specialized film used in World War II-era movies. That was a no-go. One of Vellam's sources instead recommended Ilford to achieve the same romantic, grainy quality. Assistant Bookings Editor Will Higdon-Sudow hopped a flight with it and made the handoff in a hotel lobby. The results speak for themselves.

Well, to all of you that still bought the issue even after I gave my lukewarm warning, you got what you paid for.

Anyway, here's the last set of UHQ scans from the issue. If you've downloaded my last two sets of scans, then these pics will make it a total of SEVENTEEN pictures.

MEGA-UHQ SCANS - PART THREE OF THREE

**All scans by yours truly

You definitely won't find anyone on this board (except for me) crazy enough to actually take the time to scan these monstrous pictures. Au Revoir, that's it for this issue!

Thank You for going through the trouble of scanning them all so I could see what the fuss is all about. The only picture that I like out of all of them is the cover photo, the rest are so pompous.Noone would want these photos but Brad or some Angie stalker.I see no great talent.

Yes they are. Much more than I anticipated. I don't even find them appealing in a Hello kind of way.
I intended to purchase it but now I've seen how worthless most of the pics are, I will decide whether to buy this issue based on the quality of the art articles...
kroqjock, thank you so much for the titanic effort.

People have such a simplistic and narrow point of view about what 'art is' and what it 'is not' in this thread. No offence; but who are you to say what art is?

I think a lot of people mistake grandeur for art. Just because something is big and complicated does not justify its artistic merit any more than something that is more understated.

I think that both W Magazine and Brad/Angelina are playing with the irony of what people expect 'art' to be. It's ironic and making a statement about the future of art and what it will come to embody.

Reading the popular opinion in this thread reminds me of when Duchamp premiered his artwork "Fountain" and people began to question what 'art is/was'.

This is *exactly* what W is doing. They're trying to open people's minds and break those social discourses that have oppressed us over time to develop a very narrow set of definitions of what 'art' involves.

This is art whether you think it or not.

It maybe be art because the idea of art is unique to everyone. However these photo's don't seem to be very unique in style or subject. The circus life that they seem to lead, publicise and promote is so far fetched that I think their life qualifies for art.
