I think it's a little bit pretentious to equate family snapshots with "art", and so I definitely see how this is not appropriate for an "Art Issue" cover. Nonetheless it's a gorgeous picture of Angelina Jolie (she's so beautiful even without makeup), and I have to agree with what Paws is saying.

It's not the cover itself - it's how it's being used.

I love the cover - haven't seen the rest of the "shoot" yet. Motherhood is certainly an artform, and one at which Angelina seems to truly excel. Capturing that moment is something I would expect of someone close to the subject - I find nothing cloying about Brad being the photog. Many artists are inspired to create from the beating life that surrounds them in the shape of their loved ones.

As long as people spend pages and pages discussing a cover with Angelina Jolie on it shot by Brad Pitt, magazines will continue to put her on their covers, because, admittedly, they sell! As for this being the Art issue I don't see anything artistic about the cover (just a snapshot that a three-year-old could take) and am not optimistic about the contents. I agree with what somebody has said here, the first art issue was amazing, the others have been totally pointless.

Are they going to give the profits of this one to charity also? Or by now they already ran out of excuses for the absolute need to show us that their life is " super perfect"? This is just ridiculous.

you are confusing the popular metaphor where doing something well is considered an "artform". Having and raising a child is a feat, but it does not make the mother an artist. Of course, motherhood and pregnancy has inspired tons of artists, Mary Cassatt, Paula Modersohn-Becker, and Marlene Dumas come to mind first for me.

I am just not buying Brad as an artist. He has a lot of money and a really good art dealer, I guess I just don't trust his taste

It means it's a purely artistic endeavor

I forgot about the covers of last year's art issue. Compared with them, this is almost an improvement. Considering the pattern, I can only assume they're making an unspoken point about the subjectivity of art.

It's because reading everyone's opinion about it is a million times more interesting than the cover itself, the comments either make you think or make you laugh.
