I love this cover.

First, I bet there are many people (ones who might more regularly go for The New Yorker or the Atlantic) who will immediately recognize this cover's political connotation and at least thumb through this issue, if not buy it. I think it's a great synthesis of art, politics, and fashion that has something to offer for all three worlds.

Second, who cares what the "average reader" will think? I'd be surprised if the people at W didn't consider this a little bit, but I also think that this is W, not Cosmopolitan -- the fact that this magazine ISN'T for the average reader is to some extent how it distinguishes itself. It fills a niche that the rest don't. I'd say the same for LOVE, etc.

It's nice to see a fashion magazine that takes its readers knowledge of current events and love of fashion in stride. If the magazine wants customers whose idea of news _isn't_ who wore what designer at LAX last week, then I'm all for it. And I think others will be, too.

I do love that Sui is on the cover. But I also have an issue with the subject matter. "Art Issue" or not, it's not appropriate for the cover of a fashion magazine nor any other national magazine for that matter.

Bottom line it will create controversy and that's what counting on.

So on point! Anyways, I was thinking about it a bit more and I can't really ever recall seeing someone pick up Cosmo who also picked up W. They are geared towards a different set of people for sure. And this issue is certainly controversial, especially since it's the Art issue but this is the sort of controversy I welcome. I don't think that the people who created this issue were trying to say violence is glamourous but instead making a statement about why these sort of things are wrong. And that they are doing it through the lens of fashion makes it all the more interesting. Maybe it's not necessarily appropriate but it's certainly something which needs to be discussed.

Oh my god. I was pleasantly shocked when I saw Sui He's name on the title. I thought it was for W Korea, but man is this a treat. The image is striking. I love the Art issue of W, they always produce great covers everytime. This will be the first W that I'm picking up for sure.

Putting the "controversy" aside, This cover In my Opinion is Spectacular because it's Different and it addresses a Subject matter that goes far beyond the "norm" for most fashion magazines and I think If any magazine was to address this issue in this manner, then W would be it. It fits the magazine and it echoes Stefano's promise to make this a groundbreaking fashion magazine through its images and the written word so I'm praying (assuming) there will be an accompanying essay along with the feature.

This is totally unexpected, indeed! The cover looks great without a doubt. Such a great step-up from last year's art issue with Kim Kardashian. And I'm glad that it's a model on the cover! Although I can't help myself to imagine Nicki fronting the cover. Oh well...

And as for the subject of the cover, I can't wait to see on how's it gonna turn out. If it'll spark some controversy or not.

^Thanks for posting MMA. It's not as bad as I dreaded it would be but not nearly as arresting and captivating as Sui's. I hope the first cover gets imported here.

Nicki Minaj's cover looks great too, but I hope they ship Sui's cover here.
