![]() Notable ed: new Carolyn Murphy for Estee Lauder. They went easier on the tan. More details on the editorials: *The Chic of the New, a multi-girl ed shot by Steven Meisel, reviewing some of the spring's hallmark collections (but no Chloe?): - Balenciaga, the counter-culturalist: Liya Kebede, Raquel Zimmermann, Caroline Trentini - Lanvin, the sophisticate: Julia Stegner, Caroline Trentini, Raquel Zimmermann, Hana - Jil Sander, the purist: Raqul Zimmermann, Natasha Poly, Hana, Julia Stegner, Heather Marks, Caroline Trentini - Prada, the intellectual: Lisa Cant, Caroline Trentini, Heather Marks, Raquel Zimmermann, Hana, Stam, Elise Crombez, Karen Elson - Helmut Lang, the modernist: Elise Crombez, Raquel Zimmermann, Hana, Caroline Trentini, Isabeli Fontana, Julia Stegner - Chanel, the showman: Isabeli Fontana, Raquel Zimmermann, Stam, Lisa Cant, Caroline Trentini, Elise Crombez, Hana, Karen Elson, Julia Stegner, Liya Kebede - Louis Vuitton, the ringmaster: Isabeli Fontana, Caroline Trentini, Karen Elson, Lisa Cant, Heather Marks - Narciso Rodriguez, the mathematician: Julia Stegner, Caroline Trentinih, Natasha Poly, Raquel Zimmermann, Hana - Proenza Schouler, the artisan: Elise Crombez, Julia Stegner, Raquel Zimmermann, Caroline Trentini - YSL, the sensualist: Stam, Karen Elson - Dolce & Gabbana, the magpie: Karen Elson, Lisa Cant, Elise Crombez, Stam, Hana, Heather Marks, Julia Stegner, Caroline Trentini, Isabeli Fontana This is more than your average gray-background studio ed in that the production value is unusually hig--elaborate props, settings to go with the clothes, etc. For example, for the Jil Sander picture, the models lounge in what looks like a Victorian tea room, which provides a nice contrast to Jil's purist aethetics. The Chanel group shot is also excellent, a return to black-and-white chic. The Narciso "mathematician" pic will prob. bring back the memory of that quantum physics ed for Cathy. Most of the models look good (esp. Julia), but I could do without a couple of them... *Back in the Business, with Natalia Vodianova & Gemma Ward looking very business-like, photographed by Craig McDean. I like the looks selected. So practical, it is almost Bazaar. *The Girl Can't Help It, the obligatory J. Lo ed by Testino. Very disappointing. Not saucy at all. Putting J. Lo on the cover provides a chance to shake things up at Vogue, but instead they did an InStyle makeover for her. She looks sweet, but not like herself. *All Access, a story on renowned hairstylist Pita who just opened a salon in NYC. Craig McDean photographed Lily Donaldson. *Bring It on Home, Andre 3000 and Liya Kebede photographed by Arthur Elgort. This is the best work from Elgort I've seen in the past 12 months and he captured the fun-spirited side of Liya very well. The clothes are unabashedly colorful and those circle skirts are made to dance in. Lovely ed. *50 Magic Moments of Celeb Outfits: The bad apple in this issue. Verdict: Despite the stiff cover, this turned out to be a great issue. Typically, the seasonal preview ed tends to be much lazier, with one or two models standing against a boring studio background. 12-14 looks, shot by Meisel or Klein. But Vogue really upped the glamour quotient with the elaborate sets (which they typically reserve for Leibovitz's celeb spread) and the casting of multiple models. And I love most of the clothes they selected. Even though there isn't enough written fashion coverage in this issue, the artistry of the eds deserve a 9/10.

Jan Allure Cover: Ashlee Simpson
Eds: *A Night in Attic, photographed by Nicolas Moore, featuring: Linda V, Nataliya G, Valentina, and one unknown. Linda V also has her separate hair ed and will appear in the Feb. issue as well. And for Bazaar, there isn't a subscriber's cover for Jan. They stopped doing that since last November with Kidman's Rochas cover, I think.

ugh...
so the multi-girl ed in Vogue has these girls: Caroline Trentini Raquel Zimmerman Lisa Cant Heather Marks Liya Isabeli Stam Karen Elson Julia Stegner Natasha Poly Hana Elise Crombez Lisa Cant, Heather Marks and Caroline? You've got to be kidding me! Hana is another one who could have been left out of this ed. And although Vogue's been using her to death, no Daria?? Or Eugenia for that matter? Would have loved to seen Anouck, Natasha V., Erin Wasson, even some of the newer girls like Romina or Nataliya. Hopefully there will be some variety come later issues. And I agree about the omission of Chloe, especially since W and Vogue picked it as one of their favorites. |
