What do you feel are the best and worst fashion adverts and campaigns of all time? Post what you feel represents either the height or the absolute low of the fashion industry... and why you feel that way! Pictures are always helpful!

For example, the very, very, very damn worst ad campaign (well... calling it fashion might be stretching it, but this is AWFUL) is for Axe Body Spray. Click here to view a flash that shows all of it.

It's basically a montage of beautiful women in nice clothes cuddling up to... a giant armpit. With legs. In a variety of romantic situations.

Can anyone point out an ad campaign that is less likely to make you want to spend money than one that features a giant arm pit with legs?!

That Gucci ad by Terry Richardson where a girl has her pubic hair shaved to form a letter "G" tops by disgusting ad list. And Tom Ford fans, please don't tell me Tom wasn't aware of that trash.

On the opposite side of the giant armpit with legs, I give you one of my favorite ad campaigns of all time-- Guess Spring 2001's Love Story campaign. I'm a bit biased since it features my favorite obscure model, Megan Ewing, but I love how subtle and beautiful and artistic this campaign is. I think it's one of the best (and least flashy!) ones that Guess and Ralph Mazzucco have ever done.

View Love Story in Flash Format HERE

This sounds hilariously white-trash. Anyone got any pictures of this fiasco? Maybe on Terry Richardon's website-cum-porno?

When i first saw those I didn't even get what the hell it was supposed to be? I mean ... an armpit... with legs? It don't make no sense. I do use the Axe though, it's a pretty good DO, and I like how I can use the dry at home then the body spray at the gym and they have the same exact fragrance.

here's the shot (from jozworld.com)...and it was Mario Testino, not Terry Richardson. He did the campaign with Erin Wasson and Natasa V.

i would say the fashion ad that i recall the most of all of the good ads i've seen is the donna karen ads uhh...a few seasons ago, when the black, white, and tan jersery dresses were popular with the metal details, the people publicizing them made them look a little trashy...like beyonce. but the ad with cate blancett in the ally protected from the rain with her hand pulling up on the back of the dress. it was a beautiful ad and worked extremely well for the collection i thought.

You might be right, I think I confused it with a Terry Richardson ad for Gucci with a guy in jeans holding his belt. I really don't know/care much about the ads and who did them...

The hands-down best ad campaign of the last five years: Versace spring 2001 with Malgosia Bela by Steven Meisel. Yes, I know it was a rip from another photographer's archive, but the ads were absolutely brilliant. Unfortunately, I can't find an image online. I'm sure you all remember it.

Other favorites:

Prada fall 1998
Chanel fall 1998
Versace spring 1999
Jil Sander spring 2000
Jil Sander fall 2000
Chanel spring 2002

And many more that I can't remeber.

I liked Dior's lesbo-chic trashfest from spring 2000 with Gisele and Rhea Durham.

That's Louise Pedersen for Gucci. Very.. provocative and 'audacieux'.
