Why not just cast yourself, Gio— at least there’s some novelty in realizing that the blurred person is the designer himself…

I can see how this campaign can feel out of synch if you think of Armani that way... I did too, but it seems so far away now.. believe it or not I actually get nostalgic about the way I used to perceive these brands, their campaigns and in general the world of fashion. I could stare at images of Armani catwalks for hours (because that's what used to get printed and I'm talking waaaay back). I was watching Eyes Wide Shut yesterday and talking to someone about that type of, what's the word, glamour? elegance? in the 90s, which to me was so unreachable, and given I was closer to actual rodeo than Rodeo Drive myself , total fantasy. Now that I'm closer than I'd like to be to tacky Rodeo Drive than hiking in beautiful canyons (which should automatically explain me and Margaret lol), I either want these years and what I consider their foundation to remain intact, or to see them evolve visually in a separate (and what I consider, maybe stupidly so, "superior") rhythm than the rest of the popular brands. Even though, in reality, I have long moved on from the ideas the product stands for.

I think Sarah does convey a more updated version of that secret world.. with luxuries, and the smell of perfume, and isolated, but through sensibilities, not status. My favorite work from her has never really been the theatrical one featuring Comme, but what she did in the 70s, or with Callaghan.. Cacharel, even Valentino, that type of subtle, dreamlike blur that makes a single texture or item seem kind of romantic, this has little to do with that but I think the shot with the red shoes has it.. and I really don't know how the rest looks like Marras, who does 2004 whenever he feels like it, but.. great!

^^^OMG-- so it was her that shot those Callaghan ones! They were like a moment in a dream. Achingly moody and gorgeous. I need to go through old magazines from the early-90s and find them now.

This... this has nothing of that. Like, literally someone went crazy with a PS filter.

(That's a wonderful mood for a Howell campaign: hiking/hitchhiking in the (Malibu) canyons with the hot wind blowing...)

When fashion is dead - the "dead" are in fashion.
I love it all and I adore Armani!
