HQ of the second shot

Quote:
PARIS — Artist Daniel Buren, who created the yellow checkerboard set for Louis Vuitton’s spring fashion show in Paris in October, created a similarly graphic backdrop for the French brand’s next fashion campaign, slated to break in February issues.

Photographer Steven Meisel, who shot the ads in a New York studio, was seeing double as Vuitton artistic director Marc Jacobs chose top young models in twins to heighten “the message of repetition and the repetition of patterns.” Jacobs noted that his collection was inspired by one of Buren’s most famous works — the striped columns of different heights in Palais Royal, known as Les Deux Plateaux — and played with Vuitton’s famous Damier check.

Buren said it was his first such collaboration with a fashion brand, and he was impressed with the speed of the industry. “Some of my projects take years to complete, so this was new for me,” he mused.

The checks don’t stop there. Buren has also been tapped to do window displays for select Vuitton boutiques, timed for the arrival of the ready-to-wear collection in March.

I couldn't care less about the cast, but one thing I know is that I love the composition and set design. As GivenchyHomme said, it is remniscent of the Prada campaign but with the checkboard motif this one looks cuter and lighter. I'm sure it will look really good on the double-page in glossy paper and that's enough for me.

Hate the collection, but this isn't half bad.

I don't like it but I wouldn't like it whichever way they did the campaign because the collection itself was horrendous imo. Sixties fashion just isn't my cup of tea, the shapeless unflattering trend has got to go. Marc needs to go back to the fifties like he did in Fall 2010.

I'll wait to judge until I see more images, but I can't look away from the awful photoshopping in the second image.

It's perfectly executed. But it's too literal for my taste and I don't like the colour yellow.

while i like the 60s-ness, the collection was lackluster to me and nothing about this ad makes me want to visit the store and buy buy buy.

Love the campaign; It's well executed. The yellow and white checkerboard set draws you in.
