Tom Ford "Black Orchid" Fragrance : Julia Restoin-Roitfeld by Mert & Marcus
I'm sure you all heard about this by now. Julia grabs a campaign for Tom Ford's new fragrance. Nepotism? Yes? No? Maybe so? What's your opinion on this.

She's the NEW face. Ford didnt want a model , he wanted a personality and he picked Julia. things that make you go " hmmmmmm..."

Well, my point of this thread is that yet another model who could've landed a lucrative campaign contract that will catapult her into a mega star was shoved aside for a "celebrity/personality" making ones chances next to nil. OR worst, taking away jobs that were meant for models. Just like Vogue America...celebrities are in the forefront of every cover month after month, year after year. Will this be a trend?

Although, I adore and highly respect her mother (Carine) I disagree with the selection of Julia for the Face of Tom Ford's Black Orchid parfume. She's not familiar to the masses. She's too youthful and like she needs the money...hell, I much prefer Bee Shaffer if it has to be a daughter of an Editor. So, going back to my question. Was Tom doing it as a favor? Nepotism? Trying to kiss @ss to Carine or a Voguette so his venture into fragrance can get mega publicity? Or is he setting a trend for other designers? First it was the magazines, now parfume?

I don't think he was trying to kiss ***. Him and carine are good friends and it makes sense. I don't really care whether it's a model or not, and it's not like the masses will recognize a model either so whether or not they recognize julia doesn't matter. He wasn't using her for that purpose. I quite like her, like carine, she has a darkness about her looks.

Granted she benefits from the fact that her mother and Tom Ford are quite close but Julia is gorgeous and she suits the name Black Orchid. She seems like a perfect match in my book. She isn't known by the public either so I don't think she's as much of a celeb as she is a muse for his creation.

But more importantly I cannot wait to smell this perfume. I hope its good. Youth Dew Amber Nude disappointed me.

The print campaign features Julia Restoin-Roitfeld — daughter of French Vogue editor in chief Carine Roitfeld — made up like a Fifties Hollywood pinup girl, clutching the fragrance. "An orchid is a hybrid flower — I wanted a girl that had that hybrid quality. I didn't want to shoot a model or an actress. I wanted to shoot someone who meant something to me," said Ford. That made Restoin-Roitfeld a logical choice. "I've known her since she was 10, but I hadn't seen her in quite a while," he said. "She's beautiful and has been beautiful for a long time, but she had become just stunning." The campaign was shot by Merton Marcus (Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott). Irving Penn also shot a still life for the brand, which will be used in advertising inserts of three or more pages, scented inserts and some back covers.

that picture is gross. she looks like a drag queen and the angle is crazy unflattering.

I think its quite good, I just don't like the angle of her arms to her face. It looks too much like a shampoo advert.

Forgettable though.

cool. i'll take that answer.

although, i still say she's wrong for the face of Black Orchid. There are far better as the dark angel models than that of Julia.

i don't see anything wrong with hiring a fashion personality instead of a model. it's tom's choice to use whoever he wants to represent his fragrance. and it's not like he's ruining the modelling industry or anything.
