As much as I dislike celebrities in high fashion ad campaigns, at least Madonna suits the Versace image!

It should be an interesting partnership, especially shot by Testino.

DRESS YOU UP IN VERSACE
According to latest rumors Donatella is taking action at the financially and artistically challenged house of Versace and called in two of her favorite superstars. Mario Testino shot Madonna last week in London for the upcoming women’s ad campaign. Recently Christina Aguilera was introduced as the new face of Versace but the campaign didn't create the stir Versace hoped for.
According to a number of Madonna fan sites one of the main sets shows Madonna inside a contemporary office location, with a dominant white color and completed by futuristic furniture and accessories such as computers and modems. The entire session was done under a strict surveillance and nobody was allowed inside the set when the actual shooting was taking place. Madonna supposedly wears a white, a gold and a denim dress and a platinum blond wig in several images.
A hopeful Donatella said "She is a family friend, an extraordinary woman, a popstar who re-invented herself for more than 20 years. " According to gossip queen Liz Smith Mads will get $10.5 million and a Versace wardrobe for the shoot.

I am not a very huge fan of Gianni Versace, I do like a few colognes (actually, I adore them) and I like jeans and sweaters from Jeans Couture, but for the most part I really dislike Versace. I am a big fan of Madonna, though, and I do agree that she definately suits the image. I know she was a friend of Gianni, but her relationship with Donatella has been "warm" and "cold" at times. Christina Aguilera...... I definately don't like her...she's listed on www.chavscum.co.uk as one of the celebrity chavs. Versace should choose a more sophisticated and refined image.

well...arturo...i don't see why when their customer is neither sophisticated or refined...and neither is the designer... their entire business is based on dressing women like hookers...and strippers...

and yes...madonna has done versace before...and the ads should be out around late jan/feb when the collection is due to hit the stores...

didn't meisel shoot her last time?... i have to admit to being curious myself...i used to think madonna had great taste and wa always pushing the limits...but lately i have been thinking she is a self-indulgent and annoying diva...

yes I think you are right - I was trying to think of when it was....early 90's? I agree about the diva-dom. I suppose it would be remarkable if she wasn't wouldn't it....? Not that thats an excuse.

The ads, shot in a London studio, represent a major change in style for the house, which for most of this century has used Steven Meisel to shoot its major publicity efforts.

A spokesman for the house declined to make any comment on the new shoot. However, a source at the shoot confirmed that Madge and Donatella got on swimmingly in London.
The combination is not unprecedented, as Versace used the duo of Madonna and Testino back in the mind-nineties.

The decision to drop Meisel in favor of Testino is understood to have been inspired, in part, by concern that Meisel has become too much of a ubiquitous presence in fashion advertising. A perennial snapper of US Vogue covers, Meisel regularly shoots oodles of ad campaigns for the major houses.

From an article by Godfrey Deeny, Fashion Wire Daily

from the last testino shoot....

fyi...from the profile of versace on british vogue...

read the whole thing here...
http://www.vogue.co.uk/whos_who/Gianni_Versace/

Versace's raunchy, barely-there dresses and reveal-all attitude to the female body gained him a reputation for having been inspired by the dress sense of prostitutes. And it was one he didn't care to deny. An enthusiastic storyteller, he loved to tell a story about his mother marching him past their local Italian brothel on his way to school everyday with her hands clamped over his eyes.

hmm... Kind of Gap-y isn't it?

I'm not a big Madonna fan. I like how she is such a chameleon, but her new British-madge phase isn't interesting to me. I don't know how she suits Versace at all.

I kind of think of Versace as either extremely sleek and modern/ or super colorful and BAM! sexiness. Madonna doesn't fit either of those for me.

I couldn't agree more, there's nothing exciting about Madonna's current phase....and for all of Versaces glam, in your face-ness, current Madonna just doesn't fit.

Woah, my second day here and you're already biting my head off in every forum I post in! I never said that their business of tacky, cheap looking clothing is refined. I said it SHOULD be.
