sorry arturo...don't mean to be biting your head off...and i actually welcomed you in another thread!... :P

some of us are just very vocal and direct about our opinions...but we always respect those of others...

annd it still don't agree that it SHOULD be...i know what you said...that's why i posted that info about gianni's story about the brothel...versace is and always has been for women who want to look like hookers...

anything else would no longer be versace...it's been like this from day one...it's what the house is about...(not that i like it...but that is its identity)

Well, the current Versace campaign is actually a favourite of mine, so retro Yuppie 80s style, Meissel did a good job. Donatella may have pulled out two talents but it's the clothes that should sell... they are bad, so are the accessories and the perfumes are old and boring (except for the new one with the ripped Cinéma campaign). All in all they need a new management instead of a famous face.

Now on the hooker factor. It was a statement by Versace to underline women could be sexual, lustful and show it through their clothing. Galliano did it, Tom Ford did it, but Versace was the first SEX designer (Westwood did it on a whole other level). It was Versace who was a master to play around with it to amaze people with black leather almost fetish like clothing on the catwalk. Sadfully this style would soon be copied by the less talented of the high street, remember this was the 80s in the middle of Wallstreet Yuppie glam. Donatella has turned it into a nouveau rich tacky galore, lacking the innovation her brother had, so what's only left is some sort of empty sexuality we're all bored of.

I think the retouching bill on this one is going to send Versace even further into bankruptcy.

I was thinking the same thing. I don't understand how they're affording all of this right now.

You know, I think the whole Versace sitch is so far gone that not even Madonna and Testino can save it. There's that old adage in publishing, that when you're in trouble you turn to one of the following three things to sell issues: the pope, Elvis, or Jesus. Not Madonna.

But I think the struggle for Versace is much bigger than an ad campaign or a sour collection. How do you rebuild a brand that has done nothing to evolve in the last decade? How can you move on when your entire image and brand worth is effectively "last season"? No one dresses like Versace anymore, except for the occasional Russian prostitute or Eurotrash socialite queen. But even those ladies have moved onto other labels. Versace signifies an era that is over, and has been for a long time. This isn't 1994 anymore. But you wouldn't know that from the tired approach to branding and design that Donatella has orchestrated since Gianni's death.

i dont think this is true at all... there are alot of classy people who wear versace... u cant just catagorise like that... most of the versace stuff is way better than these new designers... I think we have to have faith that they know what there doing

and as for bankruptcy.. heaps of extremely rich ppl go bankrupt and bounce back... like its no big deal... im sure versace headquarters will work this out

I didn't say "wear Versace". I said "dress like Versace", meaning absorbing that whole aesthetic and wearing it in a real world scenario. As far as I can see, no one does that anymore.
