Versace F/W 06.07 : Angela, Carolyn, Christy, Daria & Kate by Mario Testino
VERSACE'S IRISH TIPPLE
JONATHAN RHYS MEYERS is rumoured to have signed on as the new face of Versace. The Irish heartthrob star of Match Point and Mission: Impossible III is thought to have posed for Mario Testino alongside a slew of supermodels, including Christy Turlington, Carolyn Murphy and the ever-ready Kate Moss, for the autumn/winter 2006-7 campaign. Meyers follows the likes of Halle Berry, Demi Moore and Madonna in starring in ads for the Italian fashion house, reports TMZ.COM. (July 19 2006, AM)
GIANNI VERSACE created the supermodel phenomenon when he put Cindy, Christy, Naomi and Linda onto the catwalk together for his autumn/winter 1991-2 show - and now his sister is honouring him by putting established supermodel names with the industry's newest supes for her autumn/winter 2006-7 ads. Kate Moss, Christy Turlington, Caroline Murphy, Daria Werbowy and Angela Lindvall were photographed by Mario Testino for the new campaign which, says the fashion house, will "remind people of how influential the Versace heritabe is while updating and evolving it to reflect the Versace of today and of tomorrow". And it sounds as though the models were as proud to star in the ads as Donatella was to ask them:
Kate Moss: "It was fantastic to work with Donatella again. She is a very inspirational woman. It was great to see faces I haven't seen for a while. We have all grown up and had children, so there was a lovely family atmosphere on set, with all our kids coming and going."
Christy Turlington: "I started my career working with the Versaces and it had been years since I had seen Donatella. It was great to spend a day catching up with old friends and familiar faces. Shooting the campaign was definitely much more fun than work."
Angela Lindvall: "It was a real honour to have been chosen for the new Versace ad campaign, amongst, some of the world's most beautiful women. It's great to see celebs in ads, but this return to a selection of top models demonstrates a different element of strength and diversity. Donatella loves what she does and does it well."
Donatella Versace: "It was time to do something different. People are really looking at the 'super' models again today – how they dress – both casually and on the red carpet, where they socialise, how they live. They are glamorous and they lead glamorous lives. Many are married to rock stars or to actors. Created by Versace in the early Nineties, the 'supermodel' phenomenon has recaptured the media's attention completely."
The autumn/winter 2006-7 ads will appear in magazines from next month.

Is it wrong that I wish there had been 3 Brunettes and 3 Blondes instead of 2 Brunettes and 3 Blondes? I mean surely they could have gotten Gisele and a bottle of hair dye to cross paths thus returning G to her natural (and better) color while completing the circle of supermodeldom. Two birds, one stone.
Oh well, the ads look great can't wait to see them in Hi-res. I love all the girls and anything supermodel is alright by me. I think this is a particularly interesting mix of girls, a tad unexpected on some level. I do wish there were more Turlington though, fingers crossed for more Christy shots!
