Thanks Auxt for your post yesterday of the original amber room and the interesting vid. Here are my pics of the outside of the palace at Tsarkoe Selo and the restored amber room inside it. This is the largest palace in Russia and the only way to get it all in one pic is to shoot it from 6 miles away. btw, if the last pic looks blurred, it isn't. It's the reflection of the amber that makes it look that way.

At the risk of sounding very lame: there was one that resembled very much of the story of Harry Potter and the Horcruxes whose name or gist I have forgotten. I'll try to find it later.

And I can't seem to find this. ^ That's what I get for reading it off of wikipedia.

wow post #63 and some others before..
the Russians have quite an unusual taste for architecture
ie. the amber room
it is so decadent
was there any name for this style? i see it's totally opposite from brutalist
there is still that emphasis on ornament on both

this one has dome ceilings that taper to points.. so strange..
anyone know more info about it? i wonder if it references any past architecture..
often styles/design movements will do that

more pictures of St. Basil's Cathedral (built in the 1550s)

from studyrussian, csupumona.edu, moscowdailyshot.blogspot |

& here's a really large shot...

Wow, thanks sister vladapeg, the restored room must have been an amazing sight in person. I like the blue on the outside of the palace, too.

My favorite era was the realistic part...there is this art museum in Estonia that opened few years ago, and the big, detailed paintings won me over...
