^you're avatar reminded me of an old russian/slavic fairy tale on film. It's about a boy and a horse, they have many adventures together and the film begins with a magical black horse coming down from the sky during a starry night. I don't really remember the whole story, not even the title. do you have an idea about it?

No problem.
My Ukrainian/Russian roots prove to be of use sometimes, I guess.

ahh I'm practically hyperventilating here! There is absolutely everything to love about this thread! There is no way now that I'm not going to go to Russia one day, I've just started studying the Russian Revolution right now at school and I read a few days ago that there was a Church called 'Church of the Savior on Blood' that was built in memory of the assassination of Tsar Alexander II- I just googled it and it really is beautiful! It's truly wonderful and breathaking! I imagine it would look something out of a fairytale at night! I had no doubt that the church when described in my text book as 'magnificent' would be 'magnificent' but in reality, it is more than that- and to think it was built so long ago: (image from www.saint-petersburg.com/)

I'm just so drawn to the Romanov dynasty especially- we've hardly started our study on Russia, but the Romanov Dynasty, at least bits of it is known by nearly everyone, you just have to be at least the bit interested! I have a terribly inaccurate and romanticised version of the Romanov rule- so I pretty much know next to nothing in terms of the truth about the Dynasty- but I'm getting there!

Well, I just veered completely off course like I usually do with my posts- so sorry about the rant! but thankyou for starting this thread R-G!

sweetpop's church

I believe the full name of this church is Church of the Resurrection on Spilled Blood, so named because it was built on the site where Emperor/Tsar Alexander II was assassinated in the 1880's. Erected not long after that. Have lots of pics of it from differnet sides/angles. Hope you enjoy. All pics mine.

First is another view of the outside. Others are inside the church. Now I bet you would have figured that out for yourselves, wouldn't you. Pics mine.

Ok, that last pic wasn't of the church. That's me somewhere else in Russia. I threw that in cause it's one of the few pics of me with my clothes on.
