lisbeth zwerger, tasha tudor, aubrey beardsley
william nicholson, who illustrated this version of my favorite book, 'the velveteen rabbit'

most that were already mentioned, and a ton more i can't think of right now.
in my vast postcard collection i have several books of postcards of english and american children's book illustrations, but they are packed in storage...sadly

thank you all for the beautiful illustrations. I think that as a child I was so immersed in the story that I didn't fully appriciate the beauty of the pictures. I must go digging through my old childrens books and find my faves so I can post them.

EllaH, I love those whimsical Moomins illustrations! Thanks for posting! Do you have any more? I always thought it was just a cartoon.
Softgrey that picture is so familiar to me, I must have read one of those Dorrie books before.
Oh and I really like Ivan Biliban's & Carl Larsson's work.

Some of my faves by Edmund Dulac:
The Snow Queen

The Princess and the Pea

Firebird

This, I think is from Edmund Dulac's Fairy Book or Grimm's Fairy Tales.

tinuviel, the dulac pictures you posted are wonderful..i could never find as many because i thought he was spelled edmond and since other people have thought so to a bunch of pictures showed up at google

lea, i love the elizabeth shippen green thanks for posting!
funny, my wind in the willows version was illustrated by john burningham!

i'm confused about the winnie the pooh illustrations, i loved the ones in the book...mine were all black & white drawings and at first i thought the last one you posted must be by someone else because it looks more like the tv version. do you know about that? did he illustrate several versions?
