this is true and false. polaroid is ceasing making certain types of film (one of my favorites, time zero for one of my favorite cameras EVER, the sx-70) and i believe a couple other types. it is really unfortunate.

last year i did a solo show of polaroids i took in the gallery i installed in, it turned out really well. i used to have some pictures on plrds.com, but i haven't sent him anything lately. i love that site, there are some amazing pictures on it! thanks for bringing this up, sarah

here are some of mine (is that allowed?) i call my polaroids "polarad"

the last group of 6 is from that installation.

Francesca! I'm so glad you posted those. I saw them a while back in the Our Photography thread and fell in love - you really have a talent. And then the other day I was talking to Brian (fourboltmain) and he was saying how you're into polaroids, and so I was hoping you'd find this thread and post some, and sure enough!

oh! that's funny, we used to talk a bit about polaroids and alternative photography processes. i'm nowhere near as good as some of the stuff out there, but it's really fun - i like the instantaneousness of it, without it being digital

here are some more from plrds.

It the positive/negative 85 series too! There's a rumor Polaroid will stop producing film altogether in 07. Let's hope it's just that. Time Zero and the other Land Camera film will be phased out by March. I'm going to start stockpiling... You can use 600 I guess, but you have to make a card to slip in the film. I'm going to try to fab them out of sheet aluminum. If I pull it off, I'll hook you up with one. And then you have to do a couple other things, the website explains it.

Me and my sister, WAY back when:

i totally have that bookmarked i've been checking around and finding some deals, i don't know what to do when they stop producing it. i'll probably just cry and cry.

here are some spectra ones that i did by taking the film out before i exposed it and "painting" with the emulsion.

Like I was saying before... I feel like I need to stock up for an ice age or something Just when I'm becoming interested they say they're going to stop producing film!

Francesca, when I look at those together, I think of a snow scene somewhat... but I also think of a desert... like it's snow one way, but if you flip them upside down it's like a stormy dessert... Very creative.

Here are a few my parents took when I was little...
The "Blend-into-the-carpet" game with my cousin. I totally won.

i love that game, sarah! you did totally win.

i love these old polaroids. if my family has any, they're hiding in boxes upon boxes and i haven't seen them for years. i'll try to find some next time i'm home.

you really should, it's really nice. it's not 'experimental' per se - they're very straight-forward sx-70 shots, but that's really what walker evans was about...seeing and snapping. there are some really nice angles, colors, things like that.

i enjoy the last one too

when i was about 8, i wanted to be a photographer and my dad got me this great polaroid camera for my birthday. i've given up that career aspiration, and the camera went into my attic... this thread makes me wants to go find it.

so thank you!
