Edward Lear (poet)

Quote:
Edward Lear self portrait, illustrating a real incident in which he encountered a stranger who claimed that "Edward Lear" was merely a pseudonym. Lear (on the right) is showing the stranger (left) the inside of his hat, with his name in the lining.

Regularly the artist made self-portraits, often portraying him surrounded by extravagant figures and parades. The haloed Christ at the center of the turbulence is in part a self-portrait: mostly ignored, a precarious, isolated visionary amidst the herdlike masses of modern society.

I like the Lear one. It's funny. The whole cartoon shows more about the man than the image itself.

Well, here is a self-portrait I did myself using only red, blue, and yellow Prisma colored pencils.

This doesn't include photographs, right? Because I've seen numerous photographers who take excellent portraits of themselves.

this is such a great idea for a thread gius.!

i think it would be really cool to include an actual photograph of the artist [if available] so that we can compare how we perceive them + how they perceive themselves...

and i think it would be great to include photographers' self portraits too^...
