Normann Copenhagen

Location: Copenhagen

The big selling point: A majestic former theater (complete with sweeping staircase) given the minimalist treatment.

What's in store: The full range of Normann's designer homeware products—an hourglass-shaped coin bank by Karim Rashid; an inventive bedside water carafe contributed by Marcel Wanders—is the obvious draw to its Copenhagen flagship, but this restrained temple is as cool as any of the merchandise it holds. Over the years, this beautiful former theater has also functioned as a water distillery, a recording studio, a concert hall, and a cinema (the glassed-off projection booth now serves as offices), and the bones of the building have been rigorously preserved, though updated with modern flourishes. The dramatic arches and grandiose columns remain untouched but, like the rest of the space, have been painted alabaster white to convey a refreshing Nordic simplicity. The stage has been reinvented as a platform for clothing and accessories by Denmark's most promising new talents. The unassuming entrance adds to the impact: Shoppers are funneled down a simple merchandise-lined corridor, then suddenly the hallway opens into a soaring, awe-inspiring space.

Bliss, I really like the green tones of the pharmacy, but the tree trunk kind of seems to be like they are deliberately going out of their way to be random..and perhaps its novelty would wear off. The green theme does more for me, thanks for posting these.

the dressing room walls at the Georgetown Barney's Co-op are pretty gosh-darn awesome. Even better? Every little silhouette is named and has a funny identifying characteristic.

i guess not technically a shop interior, but Marc Newson's newish 1st class lounge at Sydney Airport, Australia.

The Sydney lounge -- believed to cost around $20m -- also features a vertical garden designed by international botanist Patrick Blanc featuring 8400 individual plants.
In the bathrooms there are individual marble-lined shower suites with stereo volume and lighting controls, radiant heating to reduce condensation on the mirrors and luggage racks.

The deep red, black and brown leather (to me, rather hard) lounge chairs, recliners and sofas are by Italy's Poltrana Frau.

Dining chairs and tables are by Cappellini, Tai Ping wool carpets are from Hong Kong, marble from Carrara and quartzite from Switzerland. As Newson says they're all his contacts and they're "the best contacts in the industry".

this is department store: Lord and Taylor
Quote:
The department store Lord and Taylor has re-launched its iconic Rose, first introduced in the 1940s and now re-created and re-colored in "sunrise," (a mixture of yellow and orange the store has adopted as its own). The exuberant new Lord and Taylor Rose is showcased on shopping bags, boxes, gift cards and in-store visuals in all 47 Lord and Taylor stores in the Northeast USA. In Manhattan, collages of the Rose are displayed in awnings and windows across the Fifth Avenue facade of the landmarked flagship store and wrap buses that carry New Yorkers and visitors to and from metro area locations.

globalgiants

Lord and Taylor is an upscale specialty department store with 47 stores in nine states and the District of Columbia. Founded in 1826, Lord and Taylor is America's oldest department store and one of the premier retailers.

The store is also conducting its first annual contest to re-create the Lord and Taylor Rose from submissions of original art work by artists from around the world. "We are planning to bring back the Lord and Taylor Rose each Spring, each time a different version created by a different artist," says Jane Elfers, President and Chief Executive Officer.
