you're welcome Estella, susie, fashionologie, softgrey

the third in #2 and the second in #9 & 10 are from 1980-1989.
the rest from 1990-1999.
sorry for the very rough chronology, Estella

This is absolute stunning... espesially I love the figure work... The colouring, and the movement that sre in the work... also the contrast in richly detailed clothing/surroundings to the striped away of personalized features in the figure... hence what soft commented about... the unidentifiable.. which yes... very appealing...
Thank you very much Runner for this... I didn't know this Artist, so Im very pleased and I really need to look into the work some more...

well it's all not that far from each other, softgrey, so yes i can see your comparisons, too

thanks for the chronology, runner, i was just curious because i think everyone would associate this with a turn of the century aesthetic.
what really stands out is the use of coulour though, much more lively and modern than art deco or jugendstil illustration....
is this a popular 'trend' in illustration in japan, runner? or is it his signature style?

it's interesting you mentioned these artists because yoshitaka says kay nielsen, as well as gustav klimt, are some of the artists that inspire him.

He did the best character designs in the Final Fantasy games. Much much much more talented than Tetsuya Nomura .

He's one of my fav artists of all time, I have one of his artbooks titled Biten. It's truly beautiful. He is heavily influenced by an artist called Gustav Klimt. When you compare the two artists, you can spot out the similarities in terms of color and shape, not exactly subject matter.

Estella, I think that is his signature style.
something intricate or detailed might have been a trend in those days.

I remember in elementary school, I made a girl write that he was my idol in the "people you admire" section of the yearbook. The details, colors, creativity of his work is incredible.
