it actually depends what kinda fashion you are into.
i have lived worked and studied fashion in LONDON and totally adored the fashion; it inspired my studies and my work tremendously. thats because i chose it on purpose. LONDON, on the opposite to PARIS or NEW YORK is highly known for its edgy streetstyle. it was part of my study to develop a 'laser view' and 'robot eye' in order to point out whats new and whats about to be born on the catwalks that's been inspired by the "streets". but for this, as one can see through the pics posted, every street corner and angle has to be examined. whether it is CAMDEN or SLOANE st.
as for the real LONDONERS... hmm well its true that their fashion is quite limited but then again, i hardly see any "real" LONDONers in LONDON
LONDON has evolved from a few years back. i remember the OLD topshop and what it had to offer and the new flagship. the same goes for NEW LOOK... what a revemp. my point is: it is not very hard to look trendy when every high street and affordable store offers the latest fashion

I know Londoners have had the repuataion for being original and daring at best,but somehow I feel like,like alot of things in this world,London has been influenced too much by commerce driven America and the all out ballsiness of street seems to be lacking these days. Thanks to places like the Gap,Abercrombie,Tommy Hilfiger et al people's style nowadays are slightly more generic and mundane. Apart from a few I've seen in pictures,its not quite as ambient as it used to be. Even four or five years ago,I could see the difference. I suppose alot of it is also attributed to the rise of pop princesses and their "trendy" styles which influences young people.

To be honest,the cities that are less major or less talked about are the ones with the best,most orignal street style.

As regards tubes:

The driving speed in London is the same as the average walking speed (3 M/H) so even if you can afford a Gucci Trenchcoat it's either the hot, sweaty car or the hot, sweaty tube! Thank God for helicopters...

As regards 'streetstyle':

Although London has given birth to some great fashions that have been shunned by the conventional fashion industry (the trenchcoat was originally regarded as a soldier's garment not a fashionista's by the likes of Dior and Balenciaga. Little did they know that a top Italian fashion house would be selling Dog-Tags and Combat Jackets a century later) but I feel that in the current climate the British public are becoming less and less interested in fashion. Ralph Lauren's icy grip reaches over London; spreading the influence of American, surgical boring-ness.

i so agree Prince, the stylish 'Londoners' can be very creative, leading international styles, still the majority seems not to care whatsoever about style in general.

a friend recently said, 'london is currently in an unwashed chic mood' how cool can this be?

older, incredible London trend, 'protection' street, including full face coverage.. i wonder is it still on?

i would definately say that london has the most original street styled because of the sheer freedom

if you go somewhere like milan wearing some of the clothes people wear in london, you will get stared at

in london there is no 'uniform' as such.......its as you like

I agree. Being Canadian, the most "americanized" of the bunch, I really think that for the most part London isn't that americanized. I know the trends here now and the stuff featured in high street shops really isn't happening back home. London definately still has it's own flavour in freedom, something I really appreciate.

Well Antwerp for one. Its kind of like the smaller scale version of what London is--its really cool being in a place where there is no uniformed code of street style. Everyone from the tatooed punks to the rich bourgeois ladies and of course the fashion aficianados striding along side by side. The most generic thing I saw when I was there was coming from the adolescents and even that was in small doses.

I give details because its really the only city I've been to in Europe so far.

Pictures I've seen I'm also quite taken by Berlin,Amsterdam,Munich,Dublin,Stockholm,Moscow,Pr ague,Marseille,Copenhagen,Barcelona,
Vienna etc. etc.

American cities I liked are Austin,Boston and Chicago.

London is alright, but from what I've seen the rest of England isn't that trendy. It's been a few years since I've been there though...

Pretty much correct. North of London women think Burberry Nova Plaid is the height of haute couture and men who even know what haute couture is are called 'Puffs'.
