I was especially thrilled when I found several other snaps that must have come from the same estate sale and has this girl in them ... None of the photographs in the collection have a name on them.
Stella (1906-1970) was the wife of my great-uncle Samuel Theodore Jarrett of Ballina, NSW. The woman next to her may be my great-aunt Xandra Jarrett, but not sure. 1930s.
Julie was my father's cousin who lived in Dortmund in Germany. She visited England in 1932, staying with one of my aunts. This photograph was taken during that visit. I have a letter from her to the aunt which I found in my father's affects. In it she says how much she enjoyed her visit but how unhappy she was. I thought that this was a reference to the growing menace of the Nazis but my brother told me that she was unhappy in her marriage. She disappeared later - almost certainly one of the victims of the holocaust.
This is my mother and her cousin Ingeborg fishing in the little lake Sälgsjön just by my grandfathers summerhouse in Kalvsnäs Torsåker in Gästrikland 1931.
