After trying to use blogger for quite a bit I made the switch to Wordpress, and am so glad I did. While it's probably a bit more complex it's just so much more worthwhile in the long term I feel. I've been doing it all through the online editing however, and have no idea what the download for adding Wordpress to your desktop is all about. I'm guessing it's just everything that's on the site...but on your computer? Seemed very complex. And I'm not so big on the technical!

If it makes sense to you and/or your readers keep it.

It means you'd virtually run your site from your local server (your own computer) before updating your real site at Wordpress' remote servers. You do this for practical and security reasons (i.e. testing and playing with your site before going online thus reducing the risk of messing or taking down your real site).

Perhaps sounds simple but it's not easy to implement a virtual local server in your computer and I wouldn't recommend any fashion blogger to try this (unless of course you are a computer wizard).

Does someone know how you can you find the number of people following your blog through RSS feed? Thanks!

i'm going to the IFB conference...
i believe they are announcing the schedule/speakers on monday...

Olanb, i've heard one of the best ways to keep yourself inspired is to come up with an editorial calendar...
say on monday you'll do an outfit post, wednesday is a home/lifestyle post, friday is a shopping post, etc....
or you can decide that your posts will fall into a few buckets (outfits, home, food, shopping, etc) and depending on how you feel, you post about one of those things...

If your blog is based in Wordpress.com you could install (re-route to) Feedburner and configure it to track them. If you are self-hosted you could set up a plug-in like AddToAny for the same purpose.

good question. what is the benefit of moving to tumblr?

my impression of tumblr is that its picture driven and a majority being reposts so standing out as a blogger is more difficult.

well, this is my reason for wanting to change -
i wanted to post to my blog from my iphone and it seems like it's easier if you have a tumbler...
i wanted to use the instagram app to post pics the other day...
but i don't see blogger as an option- only tumbler...

to post from your iphone to blogger-
you have to somehow email the entry to the blog...
too many steps- too much room for error, imo...

but it might be easier to do that than to copy and paste all my entries...
so i was just trying to figure out the best scenario...
thx...!

btw-
i know people on tumbler who have intelligent and well written blogs...
and its all words...with only a pic to illustrate the articles written...
so it can be done!

I wish I could, but they keep holding the damned thing in the middle of NY Fashion Week. I have to coordinate 12 people covering 100+ shows, and it's just impossible to get away for an hour, let alone an entire conference.

That's sort of like switching your blog from WordPress to Twitter.

Tumblr is a essentially a micro-blogging site. They make short posts easy, but anything more gets quite complicated. That's going to be a tough migration.

since 04...
but i have been adamant about not becoming a personal style blog, wanting to focus more on writing, etc.
i also think that makes it harder to be "successful" (whatever that means)...
it's probably a conversation for the "thoughts on fashion bloggers" thread...

what i wore is a great example of a tumblr blog that uses a great layout with photography and text, or from me to you (fromme-toyou is her tumblr handle) which is a photographer's blog, but again she usually writes too...
tumblr is really intuitive and there are many great templates out there to chose from (free and premium)...
i have no idea how to move a blog to tumblr soft, you may have to keep your old blog and relink to it for archived posts...
i've read posts about migrating your blog to wordpress, it wouldn't surprise me if there is an expert out there (or 2 or 3) that know how to migrate to tumblr...
