The EXACT same thing happens with me too, I'll give over some time to a meaty post that I endeavour to make thought-provoking which gets 2 comments and then I'll just post a throw-away with big pictures which gets like 10!

Aha ... that just confirms what I've thought for a long time.

I beleive that the average person does not actually read words anymore ... they scan the paragraph and look at pictures. Reading is become a lost skill, I think. No one has the attention span anymore ... with all the multitasking we do now ... they just hit the highlights and move on.

BetteT, I've noticed the same too. I have had lots of text-focused posts in my blog, and they rarely get lots of comments. But when they do they are really good comments with thought so it's OK.

When I had my blog, I got comments on most entries but I still noticed a difference in amount of text vs amount of comments..
Honestly, I think that a lot of times when there's a long, thoughtful!, text with good opinions.. People don't bother to comment because there's nothing to add. You can sit by your computer, reading blogs, hmm-ing in agreeing, but you can't really be bothered to put that feeling into words...
At least that's how I am!

I haven't posted on TFS in aaaages but thought I should add my two cents to this thread..... regarding comments on lengthly posts. For some reason, when I write quite ranty/texty/meaty posts, I tend to get the most comments and somehow start a dialogue up.... I really think it depends on what you are writing about. Things that people can relate to offers them the chance to add their bit into the discussion.

That said, images are thought provoking and my blog is really image-reliant too....

I have to politely disagree. I don't see how reading is a 'lost skill,' since everyone on tFS and the rest of the Internet (which covers a large group of people) has the ability to do so. Of course there are always some people who scan articles for only the key points, but that's nothing new.

I have a fashion blog, which I haven't updated for months, and the entries which received the most comments were ones with three, four paragraphs instead of the usual one or two.

That being said, pictures do play a key role in whether or not a person decides to read, say, a newspaper article. If the image representing the article is interesting, chances are the article will be too.

Fashion blogging has gotten really popular lately, in my opinion. And there have been a lot of aspiring blogs with tons of potential. However, bloggers get so discourage by the lack of comments that they stop. Don't do that!

When I first started blogging I felt as though it was pointless and no one read it, tip is to get yourself out there. Comment other people's blogs, try to form affiliations, or just stand out overall. Everyone has their own voice, so don't be afraid to blog because someone else blogs about the same subject.

Two blogs I am curious about are Nitrolicious (http://www.nitrolicious.com/blog/) and WhoWhatWear Daily.

I know retrogurl from Nitrolicious posts here and I was wondering who did the layout for her blog and what platform it uses because the site is so well done. I also noticed a lot of affiliate links so I'm assuming the site generates a lot of revenue. I'd love to know how she got the site to that level

I'm intrigued by www.whowhatweardaily.com because it seems like this relatively simple site has a huge operating budget to draw from but I can't figure out how it generates revenue. A couple of the blog posts mention that they have interns working for them and a designer closet on hand from which they pull clothing and shoes. Now they have video casts. How does this site make money?

I'm really starting to regret creating my blog with Wordpress. I much prefer the the Blogger designs and how buttons (e.g. for Technorati) and ads can be added.
