Oh no, I'm not a grad, and not a dropout... well, maybe a dropout for the moment. It's more or less on the lines of me "taking a break". I mean, me wanting a model agency internship is because I'm hoping to not only develop experience in the industry, but to also try and turn the internship into a position at the agency.

(If you look up "becoming a model booker intern" on Google, you can view a video by Johnathan Phang, who's a renowned model booker, and he states "...when I started booking [in London] I was only seventeen years of age...")

With him saying that, it just makes me wonder if that means a lot of bookers in the industry started out as an interns, and if they were college students is a mystery to me.

Condé Nast has opened their website for summer internship applicants so I created an account/profile and uploaded my resume but not a cover letter. I don't want to upload a cover letter without the business style address on top and addressing it to someone. Does anyone know who to address it to or what you would put on the top/greeting instead? "to whom it may concern" just doesn't sound good.

Also one of my old friends from middle school and high school works for W in accessories and I've called and emailed her asking if I can ask her some questions or if she has any advices but she hasn't gotten back to me. So much for contacts....

I'm a first year student majoring in business (well, kind of), and a lot of the internships (for finance, banking etc) that I've found want entering junior/seniors. Technically, I have junior standing, but I'm assuming that they want people who are graduating soon. Should I apply anyways or look elsewhere?

^ I think we are in similar standing. I have junior standing for registration because I've had 3 previous majors (bio, dance, and fashion) and just transferred from another university where I was for about 2.5 years but I'm technically a first year art student. (I won't graduate until May 2012!!). I'm applying for internships that say junior/senior standing anyway though because I am older (not that that matters) and have had more school than some some juniors, I just didn't settle on a major until recently. And there is nothing wrong or deceitful in that. If it comes up and poses a problem then just be honest but I think you should be fine. I think of it as I am a junior who just has 3.5 more years until she graduates.

I hope you dont think I was being mean I DO think you should call anyway like I wrote its just many internships are clear what they want colege wise and if your taking a break you ARE still enroled just not in classes. I really think if your seriuos ( which im sure you are) then you should intern at the at an agency that is small but still has good connections i.e books models for notable magazines and other venues-you can check their site for that-then work your way up.

pinksatin--jsut apply to W acess on your own. it is long hrs--till 9pm or later each night. and you need to be in some college. but they are DESPERATE for qualified help. you need some prior fashion exp in a showroom, agency, produciton--something.

If I'd like to intern during, for example, October.
When would be a good time for me to start sending out cover letters etc?

^For an internship beginning in October, you should be sending out letters by now, they sometimes have them covered one year in advance.

I was lucky to get an October spot after applying in March

Cover letters should be short and business like ... never more that one page. They should state what type of job.opportunity you are looking for and a brief synopsis of why you are qualified ... just a few hightlights and experiences that would make you an ideal candidate. Your resume will have all the details, the dates, the jobs, the company names, the schools, the extracurricular activities, etc. so don't pile all that stuff in to the cover letter. Your cover letter is an introduction to you, your special atributes and your personality.

There are books and web sites where you can find examples of good cover letters ... although not fashion specific. But they all are similar and all serve the same purpose ... to get the reader interested enough in you, to look at your resume.

People, just to let you know... as I was calling modelling agencies last week, most of them said that now is the time to apply for internships. I guess 'cause NY Fashion Week is in about a month?

Yes NY fashion week starts Feb 1...omg that's only a few weeks away
