Also, a short article on Stacey Farber's (from Degrassi) experience working at Teen Vogue. She doesn't mention too much about what she gets done there-or how she got the job for that matter-but I thought some would be interested.

In essence:It might be easier to land an internship at a leading magazine if you have the boost of celebrity?
DriversHigh, can you supply a source for this article, please, per the tFS rules?

So sorry about that Bette! In between trying to arrange things neatly in my post and making sure I didn't leave anything out I did in fact leave out the source. I tried editing the post, but it seems too late. Either way, I got it off the Teen Vogue website. =]

I'm currently doing a degree in Business (hopefully to be specializing in Marketing) but fashion has always been my first interest and passion, although for personal reasons that are mostly financial, I can't study fashion at the moment.

Also, because I'm not based in the US, do companies in the US take in international students for interning?
blackpeace, you can definitely use your marketing degree in fashion. For example, just taking a look at the internships on fashion.net/jobs and freefashioninternships.com Many of them are looking for PR/marketing interns. Fashion is an industry remember, and to help and support the creativity of designers, there needs to be lots of other people in the background helping out, and not necessarily in the design department.

And regarding international student - yes many do. Be prepared to call up for phone interviews though. Some places want you to come in person so they can interview you, which isn't always possible for someone coming in overseas though. Good luck!

do you think it is possible to get a place like that? i am flunet in English and Russian, but Italian is just on really elementary level..i was thinking that i can work with Russian/English speaking clients at the beginning and in one year, when i am done with my Bachelor degree i will be able to speak Italian well (i am going to start Italian language course in March). Besides that i am a model, so i have the idea how the work in a showroom is going so i guess it can be a big plus for me..=)
have anybody had any experience getting an intern here in Milano?? really curious to know how it was and if you liked it or not

big thanks!!! all advices are highly appreciated!!!
Give it a try, call them up and express some interest. The only concern I have is that as a showroom seller language and communication is very important... could you take some intensive Italian lessons now to help cover it? Though you explained that you will learn Italian by the time you have finished your degree, some employers may not share that same outlook for the future and would rather prefer you to be fluent in Italian now... but honestly it doesn't hurt to try anyway!
Good luck

katherine 10 days is a bit late as I can imagine in that time it is very easy to hire someone else... I'd say try to contact her anyway.

good luck pinksatin! Have you interned before? Perhaps you can ask people in your former internships if they could recommend anywhere else?

Did anyone apply for the Conde Nast internship or has had any experience on it? When did you hear you got the internship or not?

You can try interning at a magazine. I've been applying for internships lately and I'm finding lots of magazines want photography students and that way you can get hands on experience and maybe some backstage passes or something. Who knows?

That's what I was thinking. But the thing is I might not be able to get substantial art credits until I transfer after my general credits are taken care of.Would an internship only be available to people who have had reasonable credits ,or could I take a portfolio of my work in and maybe have a chance?

It depends. I'm not currently in school and there are some that require you to be registered at school to get credit, but some do not and they advertise it as unpaid. You can go to http://www.ed2010.com/ed-campus/internships/list and they have tons of listings for internships there

paperbag - for me, immediately for one, took about 4-5 days for the other. But this wasn't for the big summer internship program that the HR department runs.

^ I think I went overboard with my application. I sent a cover letter, resume and two writing samples. I think they will probably just chuck it in the garbage lol

I have my resume done, I just need to write a good cover letter. I've been reading mixed advice on the length and style of a cover letter. The one I wrote for a previous non-fashion job is a really standard, fill-in-the blanks type letter thats only one paragraph. I don't know what I could write to make myself sound more appealing than other candidates.

I think it's important for cover letters to be tailored for each job/internship. You need to relate your experience to the position (whatever it is, paid or unpaid) and as well as expressing how much you would like to work for them, also make it clear how great you are so they choose you

paperbag that sounds fine, you have nothing to worry about. I assume you applied for something in editorial, news or features then rather than straight fashion?

^Thanks By the way, do you think an internship in the Features department of a magazine would require writing samples when you apply?
