Books About Fashion & Designers - Recommendations ?
I would love to get some reccomendations of books about fashion! Not 'chick lit' stories about adorable man-chasing single girls wearing Manolos, I want to read designer's biographies, fashion history, that kind of thing!

Please advise!

I quite like Key Moments in Fashion by Hamlyn. Interesting and fun to read.

I read "The House of Gucci" a while ago. It's a mind boggling story about money, greed, and murder amidst the Gucci family. Reads like a novel.
ALT: A Memoir by Andre Leon Talley
Grace: 30 years of Fashion at Vogue--Grace Coddington
Shocking! The Art and Fashion of Elsa Schiaparelli
Diane--DVF's story, I think they just put out a new one called "the Wrap"

Pick any major designer and I'm sure you can find something on Amazon.
Happy reading

Any of the Gucci books.

The Life and Death of Andy Warhol.

Fashionista by Lynn Messina.

The Nanny Diaries by... ?

(Okay, so the last two aren't intelligent.)

Oh, I forgot to add "Fashion Victim: our love, hate relation ship with..." by Michelle Lee. Not exactly a "fashion" book, but talks about the trend markets, McFashion, sweatshops and the "dirty" side of the industry.

good thread.

is Fashion Now by Terry Jones worth buying?

I saw it the other day and I was about to buy it but meh, I bought something else, I'll probably buy it this weekend but I'm unsure, is it good?

I bought that in New York-it really made me think, actually, and I would recommend it.

Thanks

It's basically a little encyclopedia style book of designers, nothing really interesting or informative unless you want general superficial knowledge.

oh I see... some basic knowledge is never too much but yeah, I'm far more interested in reading about anything 'off the radar'.
