Color Palettes

Hey guys! I'm going nuts over hear trying to find this info on the web but its nowhere near to be found!
My problem is, I am creating an original color palette from my moodboard for a design project plus 2 supplementary color palettes.What does 'supplementary' exactly mean? The other 2 have to be completley different colors from each other & the original or similar to each other and the original??
I'm just soo confused!

From my understanding, supplementary is something that is additional. So maybe the supplementary color palettes should be different from each other, but both able to compliment and enhance the original color palette. That's my guess. I hope that helped a little!

a supplementary colour pallete should propose colour combinations to the original colours, including accents

(colours that would compliment and bring 'out' your basic/main colour propositions)
